Re: What got you into Quizbowl?
Also you don't want too many people at practice if you don't have enough buzzers. My team doesn't have tryouts, but attrition does its job unless we suddenly have a jump in parent volunteering. Then more kids stay around because more of them can attend tournaments. I started doing real quizbowl my f...

I'm assuming the word epic in this context means total domination by one person.

Re: Next Year
Minnesota Probably the best returning team from Minnesota will be Chaska, which returns Sam Peterson. He seems dedicated to good quizbowl and improving at good quizbowl. The other teams ARE A MYSTERY Agreed. I moderated several of their games and was impressed with his gameplay. If they can dig up ...

Re: ACE Camp
The one thing I really found ridiculous was the scheduling of the game to get us into the auditorium for a recruitment session for Milligan College that delayed the game and caused it to cut into our dinner. While I understand that a school would want to reach out to people who are supposed to be s...

Re: ACFDB - a new tossup database
I also wanted to know if there were a way to do that for the PACE NSC set. It would just require parsing the PACE sets, and then getting people to categorize all of them. I would be happy to help with the former, but the latter in particular is very time-consuming. But there's no reason it can't be...

I hope this means that Gov Cup quick recall questions will be better (maybe even pyramidal?!) in Kentucky

Re: An Open Letter to NAQT
Ok thank you cvdwightw on answering some of my questions Ignoring the trash questions: Is there a reason why NAQT "lacks" in quality to ACF even though both feature some of the same writers and even sometimes the rare repeat? Or do NAQT and ACF Fall have equal quality? Or does NAQT have ce...

Re: An Open Letter to NAQT
Would a compromise for NAQT be to ask math theory questions on formulas? Formulas are almost always used in real computation questions Formulas also test depth of knowledge I will quit trying to explain why I believe calculus questions would be a better fit for pyramidal, since computation of any ki...

Re: An Open Letter to NAQT
stuff The problem with what you say is that it is inherently impossible. Whatever it boils down to, math computation will primarily be about computational speed---as it is pretty much designed to be. The problem with your analogy is that lit and history always grow outwards, but the computational m...

Re: An Open Letter to NAQT
From my experience around 20% of the computation questions I've heard in three years playing sounded at all pyramidal to a person that got a C in Algebra II. The computation players on my team all just solve it given whatever method they know at the beginning of the question instead of using the tr...

Re: An Open Letter to NAQT
I have a question regarding ACF Fall questions and those of NAQT. Having practiced large amounts of NAQT questions at school and read large amounts of ACF Fall questions at home, are there ACF Fall writers that also write for NAQT? I have seen a few questions found in both types of formats. Although...
