Re: Kentucky '10-'11

Shikha and I would like to say that it's called "Quick Recall" for a reason.

Re: Kentucky '10-'11

Any particular reason why for the past four years, Pikeville has been on the same side of the bracket as Dunbar?
yea, that's fair.

Re: Kentucky '10-'11

I guess I got the wrong interpretation from your smiley. Oh well. It needed to be said, in my opinion. :)

Re: Kentucky '10-'11

I'm going to have to agree with Faiyad. Johnson Central has just has much depth of knowledge as the do breadth. Just sayin'.

Re: Kentucky 09-10

Props to the 15th region for taking first in every written assessment category. Way to combat stereotypes! I literally just realized that; you beat me to the punch, haha. Yeah congrats to Brad, Shikha, and Jack. And a big thank you to Eric from moi. Haha. Congratulations to you, sir. I thoug...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

Also, what did the Arts/Humanities testers think of the Region test? Patrick Cox (from Marion County) and I have talked about it, and we don't understand the social studies questions on there (exactly how is an Art person supposed to know the Avingon Papacy?), nor the extremely obscure actual fine ...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

I noticed the upper/lower bracket thing but wasn't sure if that was a holdover from the previous method of a blind draw. I also understand you're frustation, but even if I'm wrong (and I very well could be) if you finish strong in prelims you wouldn't play Dunbar until the state semis with the rese...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

Jack, Correct me if I'm wrong, but Pikeville is in a prelim. bracket with: Corbin, Marion Co., and Eastern, so there's no way you'd play Dunbar until the elimination rounds. The second part of my point is this: and perhaps where I could be off. After the prelims single elimination is seeded based o...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

Hope everyone is doing well and good luck to all teams at state! Did the KAAC do any seeding for the pools? They look much more balanced than last year. In one pool last year, Dunbar, Russell, and Simon Kenton were all in the same one. Both sides look pretty even with the top half having Dunbar, Ma...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

Pikeville is always low on money, so going to tournaments is a problem for us. I'd like to go to the Dunbar tournament, yet I have trouble seeing it happen. ...Can I play as a one-man team? Haha. I'm going to both KAAC and ACE (Milligan). After state, my entire team was like "yea. let's go to A...

Re: Kentucky 08-09

Well, Andrew, I'm planning on going. I can't speak for the rest of my team, but I know I'll be there.

Re: Kentucky 08-09

Jack is!
Although I can't speak for the rest of my team, I (and probably Max) would love to come scrimmage, if that's alright with you guys?
And I'm pretty stoked about state as well. Hopefully, I'll quit changing my correct answers to wrong ones on the tests.

Re: Kentucky 08-09

I personally like quizbowl a lot. Of course, GovCup testing is one of my favorite things to do as well. Really, everything about state is fun to me: the testing, the quick recall, the galt house, etc. So, I am pretty excited about March. And Pikeville might go to Dorman and Brookwood JV, dep...

Re: Kentucky 08-09

Our Dorman match was sad. We were neck and neck until the final round (tossups then 3 bonuses).
We sorta shut down at that point.
But top 8 is much better than I'd expected, so I was still happy.
Congrats, Dunbar, on your perfomance!

And thank you, Scott. Congratulations to you, too!

Re: Kentucky 08-09

Thanks! Aaron, you were domination, man! And as far as studying goes, I think we all hate it. (I'm putting it off to write this!) I would have to say that Ketucky teams, as a whole, made a really good showing at Vandy. I think, had Thomas and I not said some really dumb things during out James Islan...

Re: Kentucky 08-09

I agree with Thomas's rankings at the moment. It's still too early in the season to make a refined assessment of playing skill. And I like Eric Blair's idea of regional Quizbowl style tournaments/ leagues. It would be a great way to practice for out-of-state tournaments. Also, (and I'm not saying it...

Re: Kentucky 08-09

Well, teams change as the years go on. Players come and go.
Although tournaments can give you an idea, unless they are GovCup style, then it's impossible to guess how a team will do at GovCup.

Or you can send Eric Blair across the state and get a review.

Re: ACE Camp

Ah Milligan. Good times.
I will definitely miss it.
Kudos to the teachers/staff for an awesome job!
I was just happy to get out of the preliminary room with Todd Faulkenberry.

The Science final as epic. Freddy was tearing it up.

(ps: Faiyad's last name is Mannan, for future reference.)

Re: ACE Camp

I will be attending Milligan in a few days.
(First ACE camp. Very excited!)

I have a question, though:

1.) How do the tournaments at the end of the camp work? I don't see how it could be very big if there are no majors anymore.

Thanks.

Re: Kentucky 08-09

Yes, I agree, Emilay.
Along with our eighth graders, I believe we have some transferring from other schools as well.

Sidenote: I'm gonna miss Austin very badly.
