Re: My school finished 31st at HSNCT and I don't know how to feel

Speaking strictly objectively: 1. Your A team qualified for a tournament that attracts some of the very best talent in the nation in quizbowl, and is a legitimate national tournament. 2. Your A team did well enough to qualify into the playoffs of that tournament (top 126 of 336) 3. Your A team then ...

Congratulations, Ethan Strombeck

Hey Illinois folks ... in case you didn't hear it or see it, our very own Ethan Strombeck won the NAQT IPNCT on Sunday, which is objectively an amazing accomplishment given that the field was stacked with some truly awesome talent. Congratulations to one of Illinois' truly great players.

Re: Illinois 18-19

Despite being down a game, advantaged to Stevenson, Auburn wins two stressful tight games to claim the 2019 Illinois NAQT Championship. In game one, with the score tied, the clock went off just before Auburn answered the last bonus part to win. Stevenson stormed back in the second half of game 2, bu...

Re: Addressing Minor Misconduct as a TD

Speaking as a coach, I want to include my thoughts on continuing something Alex wrote. If you are addressing a MS or HS player, and it is not some emergency issue (like breaking up a fight), I would strongly urge TD's to avoid addressing things like this with a player alone. The coach or chaperone s...

Sorry to burst in here late, but I have a concern. I have read this thread front to back now several times, and it is indeed disturbing. I have full faith in the NAQT leadership that the proper action regarding Matt will be taken. And while this whole process has been choppy at times, I think it is ...

Re: Accommodating for player needs

Several years ago, the Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD) fielded a team for the IHSA playoffs. To accommodate, the questions were displayed on an overhead, and were simultaneously read aloud (the thought being that visual display alone might be a great advantage to the hearing impaired team). As I ...

Re: Illinois '16-'17

But Stevenson has already won TWO other state championships in different formats, and it's not really fair to pooh-pooh their accomplishments, irrespective of what you think of the question quality. Also, don't be so quick to dismiss the rest of the field; if you think question quality is that poor...

Re: IHSA 2017

Unrelatedly, is there a reason that IHSA doesn't keep a public record of individual stats or PPB for their matches? It seems odd, seeing as the unreleased conference stats are supposed to be used as justification for sectional seedings. Even disregarding that, it would be convenient to be able to s...
