Re: 2008 Panasonic Academic Challenge updates
Somebody described the Illinois team as "an absolutely vicious team" in a previous post. And I think they meant that as the ultimate quizbowl compliment. The number of questions in the PAC format are supposed to be balanced. The problem is that so many science questions are so "math-y...

Re: 2008 Panasonic Academic Challenge updates
Interesting that you think math makes the difference. This same format is used for our state championship, and I have seen Suwannee win several championships without EVER answering a math question. Hardee has won four times and I can asssure you we are not a math team.

Prediction: Florida's Commissioner's Academic Challenge
Any predictions for this years' CAC? Is South Fork representing Martin or is it an all-star team? Escambia and Polk look good for Div. I, Div. II has Leon and Martin, and Hardee is on the lookout for Suwannee in Div. III . Taylor could have been a Div. III contender, but failed to register in time. ...

Re: Florida tournaments
Honestly, I think we could have gotten enough teams up for a Southfork tournament if we had gotten UF to settle on a date sooner! Please don't give up on the idea... even if you can't work it out for spring, plan one for the fall. If you host it, they will come.

Re: Possible HS Tournament at FSU (Tallahassee, FL)
How about a CAC-format tournament to get us ready for State the next weekend? As long as no Polk County teams are registered, you could probably get a packet from Peggy Harrod that was used for the Polk County tourney.

I think that once all the dates settle in, we can get enough teams up to make Southfork a viable tournament. If we are waiting on UF to set their date, as soon as they do, I'll help pass the word if you would like! USF Collge Bowl is hosting a tournament for College teams AFTER CAC that we will prob...

Help! Tournaments in Florida seem to be in utter chaos. Rickards has cancelled-- will it reschedule? Exactly what date has the Southfork tournament been changed to? The members of the top three teams at Panasonic get rings. The members of the All-America team get medallions. The t-shirts last year were okay. The Florida state champ. shirts were awful. My kids ( and me too!) loved the PACE t-shirts that were given out in Orlando in 2004 ( I think). THe NAQT shir...

I seem to be a latecomer to this discussion- but I found the response to the question posed by Mr. Barry, for another coach, interesting. MrSchnippert- that's a great idea! We need to have a coaches challenge at CAC. It's basically an opportunity to be on the other side of the buzzers, so to speak. We were able to take the El to everything we wanted to see last year. My crew would have stayed in the Art Institute the whole time if we had let them.
