Re: Worksheets
I played quiz bowl in all 4 years of high school (2000-2004), and if I remember correctly virtually all non-NAQT tournaments (and I never played any NAQT tournaments at the JV level) used worksheets. I never took issue with them because I really didn't know how good quiz bowl could be (I even enjoye...

Re: 2016 CO Trash general discussion
I know that I'm late to the party, but I played the mirror of this tournament that was held in Athens, GA, and I want to say that I really enjoyed the set and add in my thanks to the authors for their hard work. The only thing that really stood out to me in a negative sense was the large amount of c...

My favorite tournament was the 2008 Terrapin/MLK. It was pretty well-received, if I remember right.

Re: Realistic assesment of difficulty
I thought this year's EFT was novice level in terms of the answer selection. The difference between this year's EFT and the past few ACF Fall tournaments was that the toss ups at EFT were written in a way to require knowledge more than list learning. In terms of bonus difficulty I thought it did the...

Re: geography's role in the canon, round 398479386987
I'm not a very frequent poster. But as a Geography major, I would like to weigh in. First, I enjoy "almanac" clues. At the same time, I can understand why people don't like them. And the truth is, if you're going to study Geography in school, that is not the information you will be expecte...

Re: Interest check: experimental all-geography tournament
Geography major. Really? What's that like? This semester I took Cartography and Geography of Latin America. In Cartography I sat at a computer and made maps. In the lecture we learned about the science behind making maps. Geography of Latin America focused on discussing issues that affect that regi...

Re: ACF Fall discussion (don't read, players at U Wash. site)
This was an excellent tournament. These aren't complaints but are some things my teammates and I noticed: There seemed to be more Fine Arts than what you would expect even from an ACF tournament. In our first round there were two toss ups on composers (Elgar and Rimsky-Korsakov) and two on painting ...

Re: Player movement, retirement, etc.
UGA is happy that of the 22 or so people we had this year we will only be losing three. Noah is going to law school at UVA, and he is the only ICT person of the three. Hopefully everybody will continue to come to practices next year.

I just read through the set and just want to say that I thought it was excellent. I really wish I could have been there, just to play on the tossups on Full House and Krusty the clown :)

Re: CCs and the ICT
You have a good point about Community Colleges wanting to test themselves against good four year schools. That is understandable, but looking at the Div II lineup at ICT, it really looked like there were too many community college teams at the expense of other Div II schools who deserved to go. I ca...

Re: College Jeopardy finally finds a way to avoid quizbowlers.
I don't know if it's intentional, but if you watch J! religiously you will see a lot of the same stuff come up. Here are examples of a couple of Final Jeopardy clues: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=227&highlight=pitcairn+island http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=2096&am...

Re: College Jeopardy finally finds a way to avoid quizbowlers.
The show judges potential contestants by all kinds of criteria. Over the years there have been a lot of quiz bowlers on the regular show and a lot of them haven't done well. I am not convinced the J! people avoid quiz bowlers for any one reason. It would be pretty boring if there were nothing but qu...

Re: Minnesota Undergrad Tournament discussion
The meta thing has been discussed already. I don't see the need to bring it up again here. There were some questions at the tournment that sounded like they could have been lifted from past ACF Falls. As was mentioned though, there is no need to worry about it too much. There is only so much you can...

Re: Minnesota Undergrad Tournament discussion
There was a problem with repeats. There were also some clues that had giveaways too early. One that I remember was the Thomas Pynchon tossup where "Entropy" was the first work mentioned. There was also the one on Schubert that mentioned the Trout Quintet in either the first or second line....

The baseball distribution is out of control. I'm not pointlessly argue that the sports or pop culture distribution is too high at this tournament, but NAQT can certainly do a better job balancing the sub-distribution so we don't hear so many baseball tossups and bonuses. For Div 1 I remember hearin...

I also agree that the questions were bad, at least in Div I. There were a lot that were poorly written. I'd like to give examples but it looks like we have to hold off on that. Regarding distribution, I don't believe that geography, trash, and current events should be abolished from any format. Ther...

Also, I'm not sure where the extra trash distribution issue is coming from. No packets had more than 1/1 trash. Each packet did have 1/1 your choice, which sometimes included current events, which I guess could count as 2/2 trash if you count things like Summers or Musharef trash, but that's sort o...
