Re: Texas '09-'10
Thank you for the advice and the Stanford site is perfect. By any chance do you know anything about the Texas Winter Training Camp outside the standard info my coach gave me? You should get in touch with Chris Romero for that. Also, if what i've gleaned is accurate, the more people who show up, the...

Re: Texas '09-'10
Generally it's noted that many Texas teams are content with comp math and generalist questions, thus the difficulty in trying to turn Texas towards more academic formats.

Re: Texas '09-'10
Agreed, Pulak. 'twas good and fun to play everybody and shake off the rust from the summer. I'm glad that you're motivated to study (perhaps this signals a change towards HSAPQ or even PACE? ), and I hope to watch you guys develop throughout the year. Regarding the questions, I feel that the ...

Re: Studying Geography
Thanks for the reply Andrew. As a follow-up to your suggestion I'd like to ask how you sift through the information for various landforms, countries, etc in order to get to the information that'll be asked about most on Quiz Bowl? Or do you merely attempt to remember everything? I'm assuming that as...

Re: Generalists
So Andrew I guess what you're suggesting then is a specialty in some areas coupled with a general breadth to shore up the weaknesses of your area. The reason I bring up generalism is because I was scanning through some theory topics and one person mentioned that teams w/ a generalist and some specia...

Re: Generalists
Again, thank you for the replies. Another thing I'm wondering about is the ability of the generalist to thrive on a team with multiple specialists. I realize that methods like reading packets and gaining new contexts may be helpful for a starting Quiz Bowl player, but is there anyway to produce enou...

Generalists
Hi guys. So you might remember me from my dumb studying geography topic. I basically decided to try to become a generalist so as to help with bonus conversion for my team. I'd like to know your thoughts on generalists. What should be done to become a good generalist? Is the studying process differen...

Studying Geography
It seems to me that Geography seems to be one of the trickier subjects to master, seeing as how there's a wide range of things that can be asked in a geography tossup. I've tried reading National Geographic, looking at maps, and just reading encyclopedia entries on random things; but it seems as if ...

Re: Texas '08-'09
Having just returned from a tournament where we faced John Cooper I feel like I can safely say that they don't seem to be at the level they were last year.
Granted, they're still a decent team, but the lack of Chris White (whether due to graduation or just not showing up) was apparent.
