Re: Kentucky '10-'11

That seems like a decent application, although there would have to be some changes to the process for Kentucky. I really wish KAAC would get involved in something like this, they did it for Panasonic for a couple years so I don't see why they couldn't for NASAT. Because that would make too much sen...

Re: University of Louisville Academic Challenge

I would like to point out that Trinity A and B weren't the right teams. After they found out the prelim pools, they switched their teams. I don't think it really threw anything off, but it seemed a bit unethical.

Overall, I enjoyed the tournament and it was probably one of the more fun quizbowl tournaments I've ever been to, honestly. Big thanks to Alabama for hosting it.

Funniest thing about the stats is that the Average Points For and Average Points Against for WKU is equal. I find that quite hilarious and I've never seen that before.

Next year, it should be handled better for sure. I feel like a lot of good senior players got screwed. Congrats to the coaches that once again prevented good quizbowl from being widely recognized in Kentucky.

Re: Kentucky 09-10

If you go by north-south, then Lexington is more central. If you go by east-west, then Louisville is more central. It's not a huge difference either way. It's kind of a huge difference for teams in the Jackson Purchase. Louisville makes more sense as Kentucky is elongated. But, it doesn't matter mu...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

Most teams would not allow working microphones on their tables as was witnessed this weekend. In the matches I officiated or watched the KAAC furnished microphones were turned off or directly away from the players. I think it would be very difficult to voice record students to any degree of accurac...

This is an error that can occur in any format and I imagine almost everyone has had something like this happen ...

I had a lot of fun at State, and the competition was great. That being said, something needs to be done in the future about the officials. In our match against St. X to make it to the Semis, Scott buzzed in and said, "hydrolysis", and 99% of the people in the room agreed that they heard hi...

Re: Kentucky HSAPQ All-star Team

I'd like to add that if players on a team are more concerned with quick recall than quality Quizbowl, then they aren't the players we would need on the team anyways. Also, there won't be a date where everyone can attend, but the day before state starts up is the day MOST can attend. If the others do...

I really don't think anybody should worry about making the coaches angry. This isn't a team try-out or event, this is individual. If a coach isn't wanting to allow a player to attend, have the player bring his/her parents. Or somebody should explain to them that trying out for this using good quizbo...

Why would we need permission from the Galt House or KAAC to have a few "scrimmage" matches in our own rooms that we are paying for? And why would it matter if some coaches wouldn't want their players participating? I hate to sound like some sort of elitist, but those who would do well on t...

2) Dunbar B is fast. Very fast. Don't get me wrong, they're very knowledgable and good at quizbowl in general. But the biggest thing I noticed from them is that their reaction time to a clue they know is very quick. It seemed like every question saw one of our kids buzz just a split second after th...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

The fact that it was random seems to be what made it unfair to me. Because rather than making sure the pools were balanced, they just threw everybody in a hat and pulled numbers. I guess the format was fine, but the way it was done definitely wasn't. A 3-1 record means nothing if you didn't really p...

Our B team played lost by around 30 and was 4th.
They actually lost by 42. The seeding for the bracket at the end was also awful. We were seeded 7th. Under our B team and teams we have beaten this year pretty handily. I'll never understand how that tournament was supposed to work.

Back to the team selection for HSAPQ. It seems pretty obvious to me what should be done. They would sepa...

Region was a little ridiculous this year to be perfectly honest. It was just really awkward. Edmonson isn't going to State, Grayson is. And a team with no Quick Recall won overall. That blew my mind. Just, really awkward. I look forward to perhaps going through a few rounds of state. Haha.
