The problem with suggesting kids send in a bid is that sending a team requires a decent amount of money, which a group of kids would probably not be able/willing to provide.

How feasible is it to learn to drive a bus? I know that the coach at a nearby middle school of mine would always drive kids to math contests, and I'm sure that would significantly reduce costs.

I believe the logistics argument that it is difficult for moderators to track individual stats and moderate and keep rounds running quickly, as well as the manpower issue that there aren't enough people to have two to a room.

I know this is not really something that can be easily answered, but do you know how hosting HSNCT in Texas in 2000 and 2002 affected turnout? Since the highest quizbowl density is in the east, were there fewer teams, proportionally, attending from that region because of the distance?

You might want to check out sporcle and funtrivia, which probably have quizzes closer in line to the quizbowl you'll be doing than the packets you'll find online. Even novice tournaments are probably aiming at more academic topics than I would expect your competition will.

What do you think about the expenses? In my opinion, it's hard to justify not quizbowl for the high prices that Disney World naturally entails, especially if that cost is being footed by a school.

My brother is in 5th grade. It seems pretty plausible to get pretty good at awful middle school level quizbowl while still getting pretty good at good middle school level quizbowl.
