Re: 2011 NSC Question Set Discussion

As a coach of a team from a lower bracket team, I also don't think the questions were too difficult. We fully expected the question set to be difficult and that level of difficulty was not a deterrent for us. It's nationals - the questions should be challenging. I also agree with what Charlie said ...

Re: 2010 HSNCT conversion stats discussion

From Round 3 of the 2010 NSC 2. One order in this phylum, Pennatulacea, bioluminesces upon contact, and its members employ a balancing organ called a statocyst. Contact with some members of this phylum can lead to Irukandji syndrome, with symptoms including tachycardia and vomiting. The parasitic My...

Re: 2010 HSNCT conversion stats discussion

Could you also give some of the most powered and least powered questions? I think it would be very interesting to see what subjects these questions were in.

Re: let's talk about conversion stats

Why is NAQT's conversion goal 85%? Is there a reason this number was chosen?
Secondly, are teams really not going to come back to a tournament if NAQT adds more social science and fine arts while cutting down on trash?

Re: PACE NSC: format changes, 2010 information

I remember a question on time dilation that mentioned Ives and Stillwell in the first line and the word "effect." Was it a poor decision to buzz in and say doppler effect? Should I have waited? Also, on the Dorothea Lange tossup, midway through it mentioned a photographer who worked at Man...

Re: 2010 HSNCT discussion thread

Sorry, I was wrong about the Berlioz question, it seems that a teammate and I overlooked information while researching him  . However, two of my main questions are still unanswered. Why is watching sports more important than learning about economics? Secondly, why is so much of the geography Am...

Re: 2010 HSNCT discussion thread

Just curious, why are questions like "stethascopes," "microphones," and "grafiti" being asked? Why is "twin primes" being asked, if it is bound to be negged a lot and have a low conversion rate, especially when a question on primes would be just as good? Why w...

Re: New Trier Varsity (12/19/2009) at New Trier (Winnetka, IL)

Fourth of all, the reason Stevenson and Loyola did not make the top bracket is that in their fifth matches they lost to teams that were statistically worse than they were. In other words, they had their chance and blew it. The system was as fair as any system possibly could be. Stevenson was a step...

Re: New Trier Varsity (12/19/2009) at New Trier (Winnetka, IL)

DCC was not at full strength and it didn't help that they had to face the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers all in the morning. I want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this tournament, even though we got pounded in the afternoon. We got to play some great teams on well-written questions, and I loved...

Re: 2009-10 Preseason Top 50

 I'm very honored to even be ranked in the top 50 but we are way overated, even if our entire team has been studying very hard this summer and has fairly good balance. While we return everyone on the team that won the lowest PACE bracket (top 3 being sophomores), our showing at the HSNCT was ...

Re: Distribution

Hi. I'm new to the forum and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I have a question. If you were to write a tournament of only American History and World History, what would your distribution for each be? I find myself writing too much on particular subjects and am not sure how m...
