Re: NAQT Collegiate Novice @ Michigan (9/24/16) (IS-161AC)

MSU is still planning on sending teams to this. Is this the most updated field? I suspect we are bringing 8 players or so, but is there player limit per team? We may bring more than 8 players depending on the interest of our team and I'd like to start dividing the interested players into teams. Bec...

At our site, a number of people (including me) were negged for saying Friedel–Crafts on the Friedel–Crafts clues for the electrophilic aromatic substitution question. Should this have been accepted? Yeah, that's completely true of course, but in practice, I've always used 280 to find protein concentration. I see your point though, it's not accurate to just say the maximum is at 280. I'll change the wording - thanks!

I first heard about monic polynomials mostly as a terminology thing at first back when I first learned any algebra at all (so something like http://www.math.utah.edu/~wortman/1050-text-fp.pdf) but I guess it's just something unique that my teacher decided to mention rather than a common thing.

The polynomial tossup in packet 8 says monic in the middle, still in power, which seems suboptimal since I think it makes it really easy for someone to just go and guess polynomial. I also thought the alcohol tossup from packet 5 was pretty fraudable since it suggests pretty early that it's some kin...

In the first Michigan A vs. Michigan B game, we went 5/11/1, not 5/17/1 as listed in the stats - they have Neal getting 6 tossups, when he didn't get any, so we should have 350 bonus points from 16 bonuses heard, I think.
