Re: Wanted: Music and Science Writers for CO
Although I am in no way qualified to edit all of science, I would be willing to write math/CS (and astronomy and physics, if need be).

Re: ACF Fall Discussion
To some extent, "hard parts" are a benefit to first year players. Those that actually have knowledge in some field will be able to make the connection before some experienced player just frauds the question/already has some sort of binary knowledge built in. I don't think that it makes sen...

Re: ACF Fall New England: Brandeis (6 November 2010)
I applaud Brandeis for their speedy posting of stats!
Two sorta strange things I noticed;
In Yale B vs. Brown, we got 306 points?
And in Yale B vs. Yale A, we got total negs of -2? Is that a thing?

Re: ACF Fall Discussion
I will say, ignoring the minor math comments and some questionable difficult ranges in bonuses, I very much enjoyed the tournament and thought the questions were well written and the distribution was pretty good as far as being similar to past ACF Fall tournaments (I have my own problems with distri...

Re: ACF Fall Discussion
In retrospect, the fact that Riemann manifolds exist should have come later in the question. But honestly the binary association between "namesake manifold" and Riemann is a foolish one as noted really important mathematicians Hilbert, Poincaré, and Banach have namesake manifolds among ot...

Re: ACF Fall Discussion
My general impression of the tossups of the tournament are uniformly positive, except for minor exceptions (see below). But generally I agree with the tone that there was a HUGE discrepancy between bonus parts, with questions far outside of my field that I could very easily single-handedly 30 (assum...

Re: ACF Fall New England: Brandeis (6 November 2010)
Edit: Retracted :P
I would like to thank Brandeis for stepping up and running the tournament. From what I could see, things went pretty smoothly (for a quizbowl tournament).
Also congrats to MIT and Yale A for the exciting and close final!

Re: Accent marks on foreign words
I agree this the sentiment that dialectic marks create more problems that solutions. There are already so many poor moderators (myself included) that dialectic marks are just far too annoying. Also, many people don't even know how to pronounce them, or do the thing where they say the same word over ...
