Re: Does quizbowl need a public Ginseng-analogue?

you lack the ability to do things like search for repeats This is huge. Right now Garuda does not do this, and it has created minor problems for Raleigh Charter's tournaments after the packets have been generated. I envision having something like what you see on StackOverflow's question submission ...

Re: Does quizbowl need a public Ginseng-analogue?

The basic idea here would be to develop something that is like Ginseng, but tailored for groups of people writing one-off tournaments - i.e. most college and high school independent tournaments, which do not need structured support for question banks, privilege/role management, and similar features...

Re: An End to Slapbowl

Just curious; has anyone given this a try by themselves and/or with other QBers? (Summer Vacation notwithstanding )

If so, I'd enjoy knowing how it went, particularly if it didn't seem to work very well or was clunky. Thanks!

Well, the Quizbowl DB has been down for 3 weeks now. Is there any chance of getting this project revived? I'll certainly put it on my TODO list! When I made this, I had no intent of providing a strong viable alternative to QBDB, but if these sorts of outages seem to continue, I'll put in more work ...

An End to Slapbowl

It's summer again, the time of year where I spend above-average periods of time working on QB-related projects. With that, I bring to you a revolution in buzzer technology: an internet-based mobile buzzer system called Buzzr . The motivation for this was, as the title indicates, a need to play pick-...

I'm probably going to do some work to make this like what QBDB used to be before the dramatic style change. Watch for updates on the main thr...

And there's that new answer checker which relies on the question bolding rather than magic voodoo. The prompt system is really cool, as is everything Protobowl in general, but the current bolding that exists seems somewhat arbitrary; from what I can gather, bolded words are most non-particulate wor...

Tournament Writing Software

In the past, my school, like many others, has written and hosted quiz bowl tournaments at both the Middle and High School levels. This was often a tedious process: Everyone would be assigned to write X questions on subjects A, B, and C, which, assuming this nebulous responsibility was not neglected,...

Re: Quiz Bowl Search Engine

Looks pretty cool. I would suggest having a feature that enables users to look at multiple questions at a time, like Quizbowl DB does. I'm certainly considering this. Thanks for the suggestion! BTW, Quizbowl DB is right back up again. That means I don't plan to devote much time to this in the short...

Re: Quiz Bowl Search Engine

It took a while to figure out that the search bar was that green bar below all the text. It's fine to eschew the default styling, I think that's a rather nice way to keep search subtle, but I'd suggest that you put some placeholder text so that people can discover that they're actually supposed to ...

So it appears that finding stop-gap measures for Quizbowl DB has become my new hobby. With that, I present to you Untitled: A Quiz Bowl Search Engine. I'm not terribly interested in setting up an API because the server resources are already at this moment quite limited. It's essentially based on the same database as QuizbowlDB. However, there are category mis-labels which are getting fixed. Right now they're at a pretty usable state (the past day...

If you tried to use Qub earlier today, it was down because QBDB changed their API. I've got it running again, and if you haven't tried it recently, it's super stable now and rarely if ever glitches. Of course, there's also Protobowl and QBDB Multiplayer, but I think mine is the most colorful .
