10 of the 16 teams at your site were well under 20 PPB. This tournament was definitely not just handing out 20s. I don't pay much attention to quizbowl literature and therefore have a poor understanding of accessibility in the subject (my above retraction being related), and I don't really have a s...

Could someone post the tossup on the Cleveland Indians? Thanks. 12. I'd like to see some sort of guide about How to Be a Good Moderator.
Situations like this still happen at local tournaments:
"Buzz...Sukarno?"
"I CAN'T TAKE THAT!!!"
This could be a subsection of How to Run a Tournament, however.

Other side of the personal-interest coin: It's pretty unfair to suddenly move this when we went ahead and requested a mirror, got one, and did the room reservations, which involve paying money and are a hassle to redo, for the original date. Exactly.Well, in theory, you get the satisfaction of a fantastic buzz from... the fantastic buzz. Really, the advantage of ten-point powers (over not having powers at all) is in providing more data to those interested in quizbowl prognostication.

If by differentiating you mean giving a team a win and making them place higher, then yes, they separate teams in that way. That extra point separation, however, doesn't accurately reflect the skill level. While having points distributed that 100% demonstrate the intangible "skill level" i...

The problem with powers is that they assume the powering team has significantly deeper knowledge than the other, when that isn't necessarily the case. For example, if the 2nd clue is the last power clue, and team A buzzes on clue 1, but team B got buzzer beat or knew the 2nd clue, there isn't much o...
