Re: Is QuizBowl an inherent "con" of knowledge?
I strongly agree with Charlie and Samuel on this topic. I think that a lot of the disagreement over this topic is rooted in the fact that everyone has different definitions of what is "studying for Quiz Bowl". For some, it may be simply memorizing clues. For others, it may be looking up br...

Re: Some Thoughts Concerning Studying Methods
Listening to the pieces that come up is helpful because it helps one internalize the composer and the piece's name. For me, if I haven't actually heard the piece, I'm much more likely to forget who composed it later on if I just studied it from a list. Like, as a younger player, for whatever reason...

Re: Some Thoughts Concerning Studying Methods
Good point - I sort of meant that part for teams that are past the novice level (I think I put that suggestion in the "Advanced" section). I wrote about how teams should write questions as a learning tool in an earlier section. But yes, I want to echo your point (and Ben's point) that Hou...

Re: Some Thoughts Concerning Studying Methods
I think this is a really good guide for learning how to study. However, I disagree with saying that practicing is not a good way to study. I think that depends on the individual person. For me, practicing Is the best way to learn new topics/clues. I find a lot easier to remember a clue if I have he...

Re: Professionalism for coaches
i think that coaches that are simply trying to be really obnoxious or too frivolous about protests are very easy to notice and distinguish from coaches that are just trying to do their job. Protesting the acceptable answers to questions is one thing, but protesting question quality, minor rules such...

Re: My Problem With Studying for Quiz Bowl
Attend practice, see which subjects your teams are complaining about. If you hear somebody yell things like "dangnabit, we always miss those social science questions" or "ugh, I *HATE* African literature so much", that's a good clue that you could really add value to your team b...

Re: New Team Help

The GATA website also has a forum, but you need to make an account before you can view ...
