Reverse Powering: An exercise in Game Theory?

DISCLAIMER: Let me start off that I understand the disadvantages of this proposition and am in NO WAY/SHAPE/FORM advocating its usage at all, ever, period; but I've had this idea for a while and just thought it'd be an interesting concept. Consider this post just a fantasy-expression of a quirky pos...

Re: Maggie Walker Spring Tournament [Richmond, VA] (5/18/2013)

Two logistical question:
- What time will the tournament start? (Every moment of extra sleep will count for our prom-recovering players)

- Will breakfast be provided as it was at GSAC?

Re: Venting rage: Cheaters edition

Out of curiosity, is there anything to form the basis of a legal case against Andrew Watkins? He violated the terms of his employment contract at the very least, I presume. Can any one of those Quizbowlers who are in Law School/Law-grads tell me if any of the issues raised here about "wasted mo...

What happened to quizbowldb.com?!

I haven't used Quizbowldb.com in a while, so when I hopped back on to it, I was noticeably unimpressed. First, the layout change gives the site a decidedly older and less-sophisticated feel from it's previous layout. The reader function, as I started to use it, seemed to have many bugs to it - and I...

Re: VA NAQT States at UVA (3/23/13 in Charlottesville)

OK, well I'd definitely be interested in NASAT tryouts. Would it just be straight playing a packet and top point-totals would qualify, or would there be an attempt to "balance" a potential NASAT team by subjects?

Re: OSPL 2012-2013 NOVICE -- Official Sign Up Post for September

Definitely thought I'd be emailed/contacted about this in some way/shape/form (HSQuizbowl does allow you to email people by clicking their names). Nonetheless, I just happened to come to this website today and find that not only had I been confirmed (since there had been a "pending" notice...

Is QuizBowl an inherent "con" of knowledge?

---------------------- To begin with, seeing as though it is summer and we can all rest a little easier without looming tournaments and such, I thought this would be a great debate-oriented discussion on the effects of Quizbowl. To note, this discussion has absolutely nothing to do with the merits o...

How do you keep newer players involved?

With the Seniors on our team graduating, our team is trying to recruit freshmen/sophomores/juniors to join the team. Yet we keep encountering the same problem of having people join, make the trek out to a tournament, become intimidated by the skill level, and then become skeptical of coming to more ...

That would be really good if Cave Spring could send a team as we had to drop our 2nd team's registration today (as I have emailed the GSAC coordinators about)

Re: Should finals packets be harder than the rest of the tournam

I do see the point here. Going over 2010 GSAC results (http://results.scobo.net/SQBS.aspx?org=mlwgsbob&id=13&page=standings); there seemed to be a sharp dropoff on the playing skill in the finals. TJ A which was regularly posting 400-500 points per game beat RM (also putting up ~400/ppg) by ...

Re: GSAC XIX at Maggie Walker (12/3/11) - Seeking Mirrors

This tournament was hard, but fun, and we'll try our best to come back to it again this year. The set will contain 12 packets, with the last two rounds being harder in difficulty. But, yeah, i wish this wouldn't happen. The last two rounds assumed to be the finals, what is the problem about this?
