Re: Organizing a League in SE Michigan
My school is a part of the league in question. I'm not exactly sure why we don't expand, but I'll venture to guess. As it is, we have 14 teams, and have quite a full schedule. Adding more teams might lead to problems with hosting, staffing, money, scheduling, or sets. As I said, I haven't really loo...

Re: Umbrella Facebook group/some way to play with other teams
This may not be a bad idea. It would certainly be more accessible than the irc channel.

Re: Harvard Fall Tournament VI (11/12/11)
I believe they did contact coaches, but as there was never any indication posted to the PACE site, we weren't sure that somewhere along the line, something hadn't gone awry.

Does this also apply to mirrors of the tournament? The Laughing Cavalier wrote:By the way, since I haven't yet heard back from Dallas about contact info and results confirmation for this tournament, the top 8 teams have qualified for the NSC and are able to register beginning December 1.

Re: Lit in Easy Sets
Unless, for example, the Steinbeck bonus is asking for characters from East of Eden, I don't really see where anyone could put much easier lit into a tournament. I can see a few of these being challenging for middle school teams, and perhaps a few better choices could've been made, but if you tried ...

Bumping because as near as this is, it probably deserves to be on the front page.

Re: Subject Area: Literature
One point that I don't think anyone's brought up yet is that literature in high school quiz bowl is different from many other subjects (history, science, myth, etc.) in that people who tend to naturally like literature usually read a lot of books; they don't tend to memorize lit facts (unless they ...

History Resources
Does anyone know of some good websites for writing questions about and/or studying history? I'm looking for something at least somewhat comprehensive, other than Wikipedia, but including wikis, databases of articles, etc. Anything that can top flipping through old packets is appreciated.

Re: Trash Questions
http://www.doc-ent.com/trash/ This archive contains packets from scores of old trash tournaments. That should help you write some questions. But if what you wanted to know was where you could order new trash packets, I have no idea. Perhaps you could host a mirror of another trash tournament?

Re: Subject Area: Literature
There are so many, it's basically impossible to narrow it down to only three. But anything on the NAQT list of 100 works - http://naqt.com/YouGottaKnow/works-of-literature-3.html - is a great place to start, as deep, plot questions tend to come up for those a lot. A word of advice, you'll have a lot...

Re: TDB help thread
I think it'd be helpful and maybe increase usage if there was a link to the db along the top of the forum. I agree with this. I hate to be the guy that complains while not really contributing anything himself, but the database, at least for upcoming tournaments, is rather bare, missing a lot of tou...

Re: ACE Quizbowl Camp 2012 Dates
I must say, I'm also very excited about the Marietta camp. No one on my team has really given serious consideration to attending the ACE camps in the past, due to the distance (we're a Michigan team). Personally, I've always been very interested in the possibility. The point is, I'm sure a ton of Mi...

Re: Attracting New Players
Thanks for the advice (especially that last idea, which is ingenious).
Also, to avoid any possible future confusion, the team in question is not my own, but the team of another hs in the same city. And they aren't new, but they're still developing.

Attracting New Players
Quite often people don't join quiz bowl because they feel they won't be any good, or because they think it's only for "supernerds". What are some different ways to solve these problems or work around them to gain members?
