Re: Greatest Upsets in Quizbowl History

Hunter winning HSNCT this year is probably up there. Also, Liberty defeats Penn. I'm not really sure the #9 team winning a tournament is a great upset. Stevenson getting to the NSC final may count. Lakeside getting to the HSNCT final a decade ago would be up there. Possibly Coronado's HSNCT run thi...

Greatest Upsets in Quizbowl History

Hey everyone, I'm at a sports reporting gig right now & might want to pitch a story on quiz bowl. Not one of those "what is quizbowl" kind of pieces, but something a bit different. Ideally I'd like to tell the story of a great upset. So I welcome you to share here some stories from the...

Georgetown Invitational (10/31/15- Washington, DC)

It is a pleasure to announce that Georgetown University will be hosting the inaugural Georgetown Invitational on October 31, 2015. The tournament will be hosted on NAQT’s IS-148 question set and computational math tossups will be removed. The top 15% of the field will qualify for NAQT’s High School ...

Re: DC Metro 2015-16 Date Claim Thread

If we can avoid hosting on the same set, that would be quite helpful. Also, to clarify, is VCU hosting with BASK Questions or IS-148? Regardless, we're willing to move to whatever set minimizes conflicts between sets & maximizes attendance for everyone. BASK -- apologies for the confusion. In t...

Re: DC Metro 2015-16 Date Claim Thread

Are the UVA and Georgetown IS-set tournaments going to be on the same IS-set? Cavalier Classic this year is almost certainly going to be run on IS-150, which is the corresponding set that it's been run on for the past 3 years (IS-140, IS-130, IS-120). We would prefer it if Georgetown used the IS-14...

Re: DC Metro 2015-16 Date Claim Thread

The University of Maryland would like to claim 10/3 for Maryland Fall, which will be run on the set of the same name . Since I've been informed that the SAT date is actually the 3rd, I'd like to claim 10/10 for this tournament instead, if that's not too much trouble. Thanks! As a general point, I t...

Re: DC Metro 2015-16 Date Claim Thread

Georgetown is interested in hosting a tournament this fall, likely on an IS set. We'd like to claim October 31 for the tournament, but like VCU's date, it's tentative pending the college schedule.

If Scarsdale is using Set 123 A for its January tournament, it now conflicts with Ranney's February Tournament, using the same Set. If there is an A-set, we can use it. It seems there might be, as Jon's schedule seems to show that three of the four A-sets are taken, leaving one that we could possibly use. We would prefer this, but if no sets are available, then we might be more willing to consider HSAPQ questions.
