Delta Burke Mirror @ Jefferson CC (Louisville, KY) November 09, 2019

So this tournament happened today. Congratulations to Jefferson CC Gold for going undefeated in a highly competitive 8 team field. Lake Land CC (Illinois) finished in 2nd place (6-1) and Bevill Jasper CC (Alabama) took the 3rd place trophy (5-2). Top scorer was Logan Mathis (Lake Land) at 124 PPG, f...

Re: No prizes is better than insulting prizes

I have to slightly disagree with this post. As someone who has hosted tournaments for over 20 years, I always try to give something for prizes, and I think everyone should. We've given Buffalo Wild Wings gift cards on the high end (I think we gave over $250 in cards one tournament), to trophies, pla...

Re: Revised D-values for the 2018 SCT

The calculation of opponent strength (TUPPTUHopp) for a team T now excludes from its average the games involving T itself. This prevents a strong team in a small Sectional from dramatically reducing its own D-Value by virtue of its play making every opponent look weak. The strength-of-schedule (SOS...

Re: D-Value Question

Ok, enough with the hypothetical cases. I painstakingly calculated numbers for our small regional by removing teams and matches. I first removed each team 1 at a time, then removed 2 teams to get our D-value based on a head-to-head field. A d-value should predict how a team would do against other co...

I think I am confusing myself, so I am probably confusing everyone as well. Let me go back to the 2 team fields. Suppose Yale beats Jefferson C 600-10 all 10 rounds - we'll get off the 0. Yale's ppb is 20. Suppose in another field Jefferson A beats the same C team 20-10 in all 10 rounds. My A team e...

D-Value Question

After taking a look last week at the compilation of the D-value, I had a question as to why the strength of schedule (SOS) is applied to the PPB value of that team? Put me down in the minority that doesn't understand why h2h isn't the first tiebreaker. If beating a team head to head doesn't matter, why even keep w/l records? Just rank everyone according to PPG?
