Re: Quizbowldb Search not functioning

This might be branching off a bit, but does anybody know how to make the search function actually find what you're looking for? How can you can the search the equivalent of putting quotes around a phrase in Google? I tried searching "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and literally none of the...

Yes. But it counted towards the game played by Hunter, so I presume they only had 7 tossups in their first quarter.

I think it would be great to immediately cut back on number the moderators. I, for one, am posting this after getting banned without warning for hitting enter a few times. I must congratulate you on the effectiveness of your block system, though; it managed to defeat all of my attempts to access the...

Re: What Happens to DC-Area Quizbowl Next Year?

I don't know enough to comment on the immediate future of TJ, but as someone who has played with and against many of TJ's freshman and sophomores, I think I can say that many of them are not only pretty good but have the potential to be very good. On another note, St. Anselm's is pulling two decent ...

Re: DC/DE/MD/VA Date Claim '12-'13

On the NHBB website, it says that the New Kent Virginia tournament is on February 2nd, rather than February 9th as listed on this thread.

Re: CSWIFT at Wilmington Charter (11/3/12)

In the JV game for AQNMCP vs Indpendence, the stats for Lucius Verus and Caius Marius appear to have been switched, given their PPG in the other games.

Edited for clarity.

Re: CSWIFT at Wilmington Charter (11/3/12)

As the captain of the second team in the aforementioned matchup(actually, you smashed together our team name and our pseudonyms into a single name), I can confirm that we beat GDS B by something between 450-50 and 400-100.

Thanks to Wilmington for a great tournament.

EDIT: edited for clarity

That's correct. Thanks to RM for what I felt was a pretty well-run tournament. There were a few annoyances with bonuses being used twice, but that's not RM's fault.

Re: ProtoBowl

It keeps getting better, but there are stil some parsing issues, like requiring the full name of e coli (I've never had it come up in a tournament while I was paying attention, so I don't know if that's standard or not) and not accepting certain titles with "the" at the front.

Another problem I encountered was attached. Clicking on the previous question gave me the entire readout of the question being read, which, i must say, was quite helpful.

Re: ProtoBowl

I learned from protobowl today that the Arthur Miller play and the awful movie are called "Crucible" and "Hangover", respectively. Generally, there was a problem with parsing the answers; you needed to know Sacco and Vanzetti's first names, all 7 or so names of Salvador Dali, amo...

Just a little something I found amusing -- the writeup of this year's JNAC didn't even mention the fact that Longfellow didn't attend after winning three in a row.

The horrors of :chip: land. While the questions were not great (to put it nicely) at JNAC last year, we had nothing this bad.

Re: What Happens to DC-Area Quizbowl Next Year?

We plan on visiting at least 50 area schools next fall to drum up interest in our tournaments I would spam happyfaces, but I'm pretty sure that's against forum rules. NoVA especially has many teams that don't participate in good quizbowl, and this interaction is exactly what we need. I've always su...

I understand the want to link quizbowldb to Facebook for troll prevention, but as someone who visits this site 10+ hours a week and does not have nor plans on getting a Facebook anytime soon (that grammar sounds really wierd, but I'm too bad at grammar to tell what's right), is there any chance of t...

Re: What Happens to DC-Area Quizbowl Next Year?

McLean high school (me plus a few other Longfellow kids that didn't make TJ) will try to come to a few tournaments and hope to finish somewhere halfway decent.

EDIT: ignore this post -- as you can see from my sig, I'm not even going to McLean this year.
