Re: ProtoBowl
I think it's fairly extreme to name this the worst thing on the internet that is QuizBowl related, as it clearly isn't malicious software. We do not have any advertisements on the site and we are honestly gaining absolutely nothing from having Protobowl on the internet. It was our goal to help peopl...

Re: ProtoBowl
Yea, considering TJ is like literally less than 10 minutes down the road and they usually host two tournaments per year, you guys should definitely try to make it out! That's not to mention the tons of other tournaments less than half an hour away in DC and Maryland. Many very good DC area teams li...

Re: ProtoBowl
Yes I recognize that it is different I was making the distinction for clarity, and to say that our school has no QuizBowl team. The application was created more so for others and for the purpose of learning and experimenting with a fairly cutting edge web stack, although our team did use it some.

Re: ProtoBowl
Annandale actually has an It's Academic team, which is like a local game show type of competition and therefore no Quiz Bowl.

Re: ProtoBowl
Does collapsing the timer affect the topic box if the room has one, and are you planning on implementing those, because it would be a lot easier for determining what is and is not against the rules? The topic box is currently implemented, we just have yet to actually set anything in them. Regardles...

Re: ProtoBowl
To your initial question, yes, there is an intention of adding new sets. A way for users to add questions to the database (under a different type i.e. /housewrites/room) might be the best approach to this as it is very time consuming for me to do.samus149 wrote:Right, so about adding new sets...

Re: ProtoBowl
I peeked into this a few times--with all due respect to the technological innovation that produced it, it's terrible. It's obviously just people cheating, making racist/offensive comments, and playing on sets they've read a million times. I can't see how this would be enjoyable or recommended for a...

Re: ProtoBowl
Not actually. Have you seen what goes on at times? It gets frustrating Right now: middle school geography only in the lobby, with the same 5 people reflex-buzzing on contentless, clue-less words ("this state" buzz alaska). Maybe the lobby should be locked to HS everything? Or College ever...

Re: ProtoBowl
I was also wondering when/if bonuses will get enabled. I think it would be really nice for practice and a good feature. We will be looking into adding more team functionality, however, at the current time the system isn't established enough to allow for bonuses to be done in a way that would make s...

Re: ProtoBowl
@BV This is cool, although I'm not familiar with HOSA. Is there any way/will one be created to enable multiple question styles at once? Does the extra part in the address change that, or does the extra part change the ability for users to create rooms? That's actually a pretty good idea, I'll think...

Re: ProtoBowl
Hey Protobowlers! I've added some new question types to the database, although they are definetly for all intents and purposes in a beta phase. The first is HOSA, which was requested by a Protobowl user, and is accessible at http://protobowl.com/hosa/lobby , right now there are about 1400 HOSA quest...

Re: ProtoBowl
Not sure what happened there, I restarted the server. Kevin is asleep and I wasn't paying attention, I'll look into what caused the crash. We are currently juggling between two hosting providers while we try to pinpoint the lag and connection issues so please bare with us. Sorry for the downtime.

Re: ProtoBowl
There are a couple of ways the bookmark feature could be improved as well. I'm not sure if the first can really be combated, but once you have a really large number of bookmarked questions (I have maybe 200) you get so much lag it can be really frustrating. It might just be that I'll have to settle...

Re: ProtoBowl
Great job with protobowl. Just a few suggestions. - Sometimes its really lenient with answers and other times its way too strict - it gets pretty laggy sometimes Other than that, its a great alternative to quizbowldb, especially because of the multiplayer. Also, the default usernames are pretty fun...

Re: ProtoBowl
Yeah, our question tagging is not necessarily perfect, the easiest and best way to alleviate this problem is to help us out! If you are playing and you see a question that is in the wrong category or otherwise messed up just press the report button and then select the correct info. Although this wil...

Re: ProtoBowl
As there have been many reports of "hacking" or otherwise using the web inspector to get answers I thought it would be valid to simply post this here, so as to retroactively limit the number of future questions about it. tl;dr If you think someone is cheating ban them It's a little known f...

I'll add this to my ever expanding todo list, it's definetly a possibility.Aishvar wrote:Is there any possibility of implementing a search feature similar to quizbowldb with an option to print out or at the very least export to PDF? That helped me study so much and the new quizbowldb doesn't really help.

Re: ProtoBowl
I just realized: there's no option to turn off the neg penalty. Could this be put in? Also, a couple of things for when permanent accounts are created: Can we reserve our regular UN prior to implementation? I don't want anyone to steal mine. Can we have individual/team avatars in the leaderboard? I...

Re: ProtoBowl
Protobowl has made a huge difference within my team's play in less than a month! One of our players has become a complete juggernaut! I commented on Facebook about an app for androids. That would be super! Some suggestions: a button or option to go offline instead of only a prompt when there is slo...

Re: ProtoBowl
A side idea kind of relevant to this would be creating a room in which users can submit their own questions (with their intended difficulty, subject, etc.) and others can playtest them and provide feedback. I endorse this idea. There is also the possibility of user accounts, although I've heard tha...

Re: ProtoBowl
One thing I think this really needs is some sort of room ownership or admin power because I have difficulties with people being disruptive in my private school channel and as (1) they don't have to identify themselves through the username and (2) I can't shut them out unless the ban mechanism trigg...
