Not necessarily. For one, any change in the state series will have to go through the IHSA Advisory Committee, then the Legislative Commission, then the principals, before it is approved. Then, the IHSSBCA exists to serve the coaches of the state. Unfortunately, the "state" as a whole does...

Since we are on the whole "Let's change the Illinois format" jag, I will suggest the following: 1. Secure, in advance, the OK from NAQT that they would provide (for the appropriate renumeration, of course) the needed 11 rounds of questions in Illinois format for regionals, sectionals, and...

Re: Triad

I agree. Triad questions were great! They were students at the University of Illinois, right? I assume they were former scholastic bowl players. I believe so. IIRC, the two who ran it were from Dec Mac and Wheaton North. They were pyramidal and well-worded, something lacking in most of my HS career...

but I would like to see more parity at IHSA State in BOTH classes, the 2-300 point blowouts from Latin get tiresome. Argh, that is the last thing the state needs...We need more teams like Stevenson, Wheaton North, Auburn, Fremd and Latin who force everyone else to raise their game a notch and thus ...

A pair of principals got the ban put in for that reason: to knock the better teams down a peg.....or so they thought. This needs to be done carefully, but with resolve. It always warms my heart to see principals working together to make sure the best and brightest get opportunites to better themsel...

I can't imagine what NAQT would charge to custom write 10 rounds to our picky specifications, but I can sadly see the complaints coming in when a question goes on for more than two lines. The IHSA is looking at the bottom financial line and the hate mail. Aside from that, I'm not sure IHSA is very ...

I don't think there is a huge problem in giving arts more exposure for round but I think what is important is as Coach Egan and others have said is to clearly define the expectations per round. I know there was somewhat of a push this year as the rules highlighted categories to be emphasized. The pr...

Class AA trophy rankings: 1. Fremd 2. Auburn 3. NT 4. WN Now watch all 4 of those in the same pool. Actually if you look at the IHSA site and it looks like they may have already done the draw with the class AA sectionals going from 2,5,6,8 in the top half and 7,4,3 and 1 in the bottom. For those of...

Some coaches have been calling for an uprising for years....perhaps we are seeing some of that now as some 70 teams were dropped from the State Series due to noncompliance. Maybe, sith some of these teams gone in the future, there may be room to get Illinois more in line with the rest of the nation...

Well......last year, Richards is where Wheaton North lost before winning everything else.......I didn't see the finals, but it looks like "the usual suspects" (except for Fremd) all got upset at some point. While Fremd looks pretty darn good, I don't know if I would go putting these Maine...

Also, what makes you think IMSA will live up to expectations when they didn't even win a kickoff? Don't count D Mac out either. Although I would say that expectations for IMSA were not mentioned, you have to admit they have been flying under the radar for a while. Just by the nature of the school i...

I am going to throw one more in here just for good measure..... Sullivan 88-93 only a 4th place finish at state in 1993, but a second in the nation at Texaco, back when it was all one big tournament, and 350 wins in that span... I will say that Latin just seems to go under the radar for some reason,...

1. Every coach should have the rule book with them at a match. They should know when to use it, and how to use it. I have seen far too many homer moderators in my time, and far more who simply were ignorant of the rules. You've got to be able to defend your team in those situations (though I do not...
