Re: Why College Retention Fails (Part 3 of 3)

I can think of little more important for getting people to commit their valuable and scarce time to quiz bowl than making sure to respect it , no matter whether they're playing every tournament or stopping by to staff every once in a while. And, best of all, it's actually rather easy to do this ...

We don't have individual stats from the game (noting that TJ A used and swapped pseudonyms on a game-by-game basis) but it's almost inarguably the TJ - Lakeside (WA) HSNCT final in 2005. This was the closest anyone came to beating TJ all tournament, after TJ previously beat Lakeside 655-155 and 760 ...

To add to this, most opens are not at the level of Chicago Open, and many are at what would be considered "normal" collegiate difficulty. COOT and NASAT are commonly used for summer opens.

Also late to this thread, but the best thing you can do is 1) Advertise that you exist and what the club is. 2) Play EASY questions in practice (I personally find that an IS-A set is the best for the trash, Geo/CE and other more "popular" categories, though SCOP or another novice set is also good ...

I would recommend against one person writing a set and selling it without somebody editing, proofreading, or playtesting.
