Re: Specific question discussion

I do not know the full sentence, so maybe this clarifies, but I buzzed on the Petticoat Junction tossup on the clue about "Sam Drucker's store" being a frequent setting. That also applies to the spinoff show, Green Acres. It's not a factual error, but along the lines of the above ... the ...

Re: Specific question discussion

I really wish I'd gotten to play packet 14 -- a lot of great questions directly in my wheelhouse! But one other error -- the theme from Goldfinger is performed by Shirley Bassey, not Matt Monro (who sang "From Russia with Love").

Re: Specific question discussion

A couple answerline things: Round 1, TU 16 - "gunnery sergeant" was the rank held by DI Hartman, but it's not a "job" and it's not synonymous with drill instructor: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill_instructor#United_States Round 14, TU 5 - Ming-Na went by a mononym at one poin...

Re: Specific question discussion

This is a small thing, but Round 2 TU 14: Frank Morgan's other character was Professor Marvel, not "Captain Marvel."

Re: Specific question discussion

Round 5 Bonus 8: Peter Ustinov won his Topkapi Oscar 13 years after being nominated for Quo Vadis, not nine.

Re: Specific question discussion

In Round 7, TU 3 ... I can see why one would assume that Javier Bardem (who is Spanish) plays Goya in Goya's Ghosts , but in fact he plays a different character, and Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard plays the title painter. There are multiple famous Skarsgards, so this error would send a knowledgeabl...

Re: Specific question discussion

Now that I've read the entirety of the Elizabeth Taylor TU, it has some pretty big factual errors in the Mike Todd clue. Fred Waller invented Cinerama and Hans Laube invented Smell-O-Vision. I'm not sure Mike Todd had anything to do with the latter; it was promoted by his son, Mike Todd Jr., after h...

Re: Specific question discussion

I seem to recall a question about Samantha Mathis that clued that she played Princess Peach in Super Mario Bros. Although the distinction has sometimes been slippery, her character is definitely Princess Daisy.

Is there a way to access a copy of the questions? (I promise I'll keep them confidential.)

Re: Specific Question Discussion

Oh, and there were at least three times that I buzzed on a question before knowing the category of things asked for. Two of them ("Aaron Paul" and one other) I apparently guessed right. For the other, the "homeless" question, I said "Harvard" and was generously prompted...

Re: Discussion of specific questions

Was there a question claiming that Lena Waithe was the first African American woman to win the Emmy for writing in a comedy series? This claim was often repeated, and continues to be repeated, but the Academy itself seems to think she was not: http://www.emmys.com/sites/default/files/Downloads/70-ye...

Re: Chicago Open Trash 2016 (July 24, 2016)

I wish to play. For anyone who needs an introduction: My specialties are film and TV. My previous two times playing in this tournament, I was the lead scorer on teams that finished second and first. I was also the lead scorer on the team that just won ACRONYM @HSNCT undefeated. Please contact me at ...

Re: Announcement: Spring Trash Tournament in NYC

Hmmm. Like I said, this is all new territory to me. I don't know where I'll be this summer, but if someone can point me to a solid host for that season (Chicago Open??? just spitballing), I would lean strongly toward that option. In the meantime, I will pencil this in for 4/6 for now, with the possi...

Officially, it stands for "Delivering Astonishment and Wonder in Every Syllable."

Announcement: DAWES - NYU hosted@Columbia (summer 2013)

Hi everyone, First things first, despite my many years of playing this game, and fewer but still numerous years of writing and editing, I am a complete novice when it comes to the scheduling/organizing/promoting part of things. So please bear with me as I make rookie mistakes (and I am starting this...
