Re: 2019 Canadian Player Poll

I understand the part about wanting to compare players of a similar circuit, but in general parlance, I think the vast majority of people would consider a “Canadian player poll” to encapsulate players from all Canadian universities. Even if comparing across sites causes inconvenience it’d still be n...

Re: Fight the Power: A Hip-Hop Tournament

Hi guys, sorry for the lack of updates. I'm working in China now so won't be able to make the 2018 HSNCT, but would encourage anyone interested to write a new hip-hop set! I'd be more than happy to add a few questions. Stats were presumed lost, but I recently found them in an old folder. I'll try to...

Re: Fight the Power: A Hip-Hop Tournament

This tournament will take place at 9, in the same 4 rooms that João is running in. I will update this post with the room #s when they are available. The format will be a prelim of 5 (possibly 6) rounds, with 4 teams in each room. After the prelims, the top 4 teams will advance into a final. EDIT: We...

For those making plans on Saturday: This will run after Eddie Kim's João tournament, so it will probably start around 8:30 or 9, unless people can only make it earlier. The whole tournament will run ~2 hours.

Hi all, Sorry for the late response--but now I am confirmed for HSNCT and this tournament is confirmed as well! The current plan is doubles with a cap of 8 teams, which may increase if the # of staffers allows. It will be ran on the night of the 27th, most likely. Sign-up sheet is here: https://docs...

Re: 2016 Terrapin Specific Question Discussion and Errata

Although I liked the drama in general, the Picnic tossup was exceedingly difficult. Everything up to "getting drunk on a man's whisky" could easily be lead-in lines, and were somewhat random lines from the play unconnected with the main plot. I appreciated the mention of Caryl Churchill, though--alw...

I'm glad the Argentina question used a dank Facundo clue. Literally the most important essay in Latin American history and also why gauchos were not given the same standing as American cowboys (because they were considered barbarians--only the city can be civilized!).

In a work inspired by this conflict, a fisherman earns money by showing tourists his “scar made by a rusted anchor.” A poem alluding to the aftermath of this conflict compares a “husband’s longing” to an adulterer hearing his lover’s name in “every gull’s outcry,” and laments: “The (*) classics ...

I think the Rommel question messed up the caliber of the anti-aircraft gun he used against tanks, saying he used 80mm instead of 88mm AA guns. I know it's a small mistake, but it threw me off and I thought they were talking about something else.

Studying for College History, Book recommendations?

I'm mostly a history player, and was looking for some good books to study college history for over the summer. Most of my history knowledge right now comes from The Cartoon History of the Universe Vol. 1/2/3/4/5, which has served me well as a source of survey knowledge.
