Bringing Mercer Quizbowl Back
Hey guys, it's good to be back; I haven't posted in a good while. So I'm wrapping up my freshman year at Mercer University (GA), where I've been on the team. A few days ago, I was offered the team captaincy and club presidency for next season, which I readily accepted. Accordingly, all of the senior...

Re: Southern Teams Attending Northern Tournaments
Thanks to all of you for the quick, copious, and helpful responses. Our team/club has been vaguely dormant for a while, and I want to help revitalise it.

Southern Teams Attending Northern Tournaments
Hello all,
I'm a freshman at Mercer University in Georgia. I was just wondering if there was a precedent for teams in the South attendin tournaments particularly in the Northeast.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Where Are You Going To College Next Year? 2014-15
I will be going to Mercer University, which entails a few things:
1. I likely will attempt to transfer to Georgia Tech, Emory, or Tufts as soon as possible.
2. I will try to help out on my home Georgia circuit as much as possible.

SQBS For 2 Games
We are having our county tournament to qualify for our local televised quiz show, and I wanted to try out SQBS before our circuit season starts. We only have two teams competing, so only two matches will be played. How can I optimize SQBS for this minimal use?

Turning Away from Bad Quiz Bowl
So our team had a fairly good season last year, but we were limited by the number of tournaments we were able to attend. This year, however, our Athletic Department has been gracious enough to count us as a sports team and fund all of our competitons. This actually has given rise to a new quandary. ...

In this vein, how have you drawn people to tryouts at the beginning of the season? And also, what is the ideal size for a club/team?

Going Into the New Season as a Relatively New Team
This was our (Douglas County High School)'s first year competing in the"mainstream" quiz bowl circuit in Georgia. We were fairly successful this season; we qualified for HSNCT twice and finished 4th in the state, pulling off some upsets along the way. However, I just wanted to know what we...

Re: How to practice when at an intermediate level
Well, I guess I may have been misleading. Our team isn't really new... I just didn't know what forum this post should have gone in. We do have several sets of buzzers, so there is enough for everyone. I asked my coach about a skirmish match today, but my coach said she has tried in the past, but it...

Re: Tournament Attendance Hindered by Coach
Well, you could always just go independently. A lot of teams in SoCal used to do this. Some teams did so because they were almost wholly student-run, while other teams were just caught in the same situation as you: their coaches simply weren't very enthusiastic about attending more tournaments. It'...

Re: Tournament Attendance Hindered by Coach
I feel like it's not so much her rationale, but her indoctrination, but we (the team leadership) feel that she does not take quiz bowl as seriously as we do.

Tournament Attendance Hindered by Coach
Our (Douglas Co. HS, GA) coach has been fairly supportive of our team to this point. However, it is now February, and we have only been to 2 tournaments this season. She doesn't seem to understand that we just want to play quizbowl. I have realized that the only way to improve is to play frequently....

Has anymore run a QB team vs. Teacher game during school as a fundraiser? If so, do you have any tips on to plan such an event and please feel free to share your experiences. Thank you!
