Re: DC Metro 2014-15 Date Claim Thread

The ER tournament will be mirroring the FKT 2014. Sorry for the late notice but we hope many teams will still be able to come.

Re: It's Academic discussion

Like people have said, introductory and novice qb events should be appropriate enough entry level quizbowl competition. If that isn't true than players need to be getting the proper training to compete in quizbowl or the activity just isn't for everyone. For example, hockey is considered a sport wi...

Re: It's Academic discussion

From experience I will say that the novelty of the show wore off rather quickly and that, by the time I was more deeply engaged with quizbowl, it tended only to get in the way of tournaments I wanted to play. My premise was and is that it won't make you worse. I am not sure why you keep insisting t...

Re: Beginner-level competition in DC/MD/VA area

This is going to be controversial maybe, but an idea is for you is to use the It's Academic TV Show or its questions as a preliminary training ground for your students to get into the concept of trivia first, before entering the DC area's daunting and difficult quiz bowl circuit. That's a horrible ...

Re: TJIAT at Longfellow MS, Falls Church VA (w/ TJHSST)-04/0

Hey guys, PGCPS actually won 3 matches in the playoffs. We beat south lakes and it is currently recorded as a loss. Can that be changed? Thanks I'm currently in Chicago and don't have access to the official scorescheets. When I get home tomorrow I'll double check that match and we'll update the sta...

Re: MD Quizbowl Championship @ UMD College Park (4/6/14)

Our team wants to thank UMD and HSAPQ for offering such a good opportunity for bringing some of the greatest teams in the area together in a full round robin. Our team enjoyed that we were exposed to playing such a good set of teams. The only disappointments that we had for this was that our team lo...

Re: 2014 BELLOCO General Discussion

Great tournament overall. The one thing that our team noticed was that (though we may be wrong) there seem to be a lot of world history and literature, especially in the European history. Now our team doesn't go to very many tournaments and we are in no position to say this is wrong, all we know is ...

It would be nice if these stats could be posted this week, ERHS was hoping to use them to make some preparations for the championship on April 6.

Thank you!

ERHS wants to thank Richard Montgomery for hosting this mirror and being able to bring SO MANY good teams together. Darn, we were impressed by so many teams, many of which we have never seen before and were excited to get to play West Albemarle. Gotta compliment the bang for your buck for this tourn...

How does a team make money?

Reading the Forum posts and talking to members of closeby teams it seems to me that many quiz bowl teams seem to have large amounts of funding and cash flow. ERHS participates on par with many schools, ranking either in the middle or high in regional tournaments however will be unable to make a nati...

Housewriting a MS Set

At my school, our team is taking initiative to grow a Middle School program in our county/region by hosting a house written MS tournament. Understand that the schools that we are trying to get to come either have no existing program or one only for Science Bowl. I was hoping that someone could give ...

Over-Buzzing Problem

Eleanor Roosevelt High School is a regrowing team in our region and honestly has some of the toughest competition in the nation, literally no more than 20 miles from Richard Montgomery, Oakland Mills, Quince Orchard, and Walter Johnson - all teams in the top 200. Even so, ERHS has been able to reach...

It is great to see new schools coming into various competitions in the region. When we played your school at the Maryland Regional Qualifier we found it very interesting (and exciting) that it seems you have so many interested members. Perhaps in later tournaments it would be beneficial for you to e...

Though not from a 'new' team ERHS is a regrowing their Quizbowl Program. We run quizbowl as an after school activity that meets twice a week for an hour or an hour and a half depending on the day. Sometimes we have 4 or less people show up to meetings other times we have a lot more. As this year slo...

Growing a Middle School Program?

As a freshman and current player of the ERHS Quizbowl Team, I feel like there was a lack of opportunity for middle schoolers in quiz competitions. Our county, Prince George's County Maryland, offers a mini tv show for middle schoolers for Science Bowl after winning or being eliminated from the show ...
