Dunbar was 6th.

Re: Easily portable buzzer systems fading away?
I hosted 3 MS tournaments last year and only had an issue at our biggest one, 66 teams. I think one answer is raising entry fees and corresponding buzzer discounts. Buzzer systems should pay for themselves over two years (especially with the bonuses some national events give), and actually save mone...

Re: Thoughts on IHO 2016
From a moderator standpoint it was a little better because we had more staff and more time off. There were some of the same issues with timing, overlapping events, and questions, but it didn't affect the players as much.

Re: Tryouts?
My middle school has 125+ kids try out every year. We start by letting everyone know when the tryout is (a couple weeks notice) and what they should study. For the tryout we have a 40 question powerpoint, with about 10-12 seconds per slide. It doesn't emulate quiz bowl exactly, but it does require s...

Re: Over-Buzzing Problem
For the past two years I've had a player who averaged 2+ negs per round. That's potentially a 190 point swing just from one player. Coincidentally he was also one of our top two players this year. This might be oversimplifying, but at the last warm-up tournament of the year and at nationals I didn't...

Re: Odds of NAQT producing more sets per year
NAQT sets are usually in very high demand in Georgia as well. For years I have wondered about smaller sets from NAQT, as 95% of the tournaments here (and there were probably 25) do not use timed rounds, and at most run 20 Q's per round. Most use only16 or 18 per round, meaning 20% of the packet is s...

Re: Introducing new moderators to the game
I think Joelle is looking for good moderators. . The larger point, though, wherever you're finding your inexperienced staff, is that you need to take the time to train them - explain not just the rules but how to keep a game moving, how to read a schedule and a scoresheet, and, in cases where this ...

Re: Discuss 2016 NHBB Nationals Here
Two immediate things: Content repetition. I'll hold off discussing the actual answerlines until that gets cleared, but there were clear instances in the bowl of the same answer appearing two, and possibly three, times. If the eligible pool of answers is "anything that has happened in the past&...
