Re: SnowCAT at Carleton College (1/19/19, IS-181)
This tournament happened with 14 teams. A special shoutout to Carsten, Tora and Joe for coming in and providing outside staffing. Wayzata C won the tournament without a loss, while Wayzata B and EP A tied for 2nd, and should both get HSNCT and NSC invitations, and Wayzata A and EP B tied for 4th, wi...

Re: SnowCAT at Carleton College (1/19/19, IS-181)
We are down to just 3 spots remaining in the field before we start a waitlist, so get those registrations in soon! We also have received Platinum certification from PACE, meaning the top 25% of the field (5 of 18 or 20, 6 if we get to more than 20) will qualify for NSC in suburban Washington, D.C., ...

This tournament happened. Wayzata swept the top four spots, taking all the berths to nationals. Special thanks to Jason Asher, Brian Kalathiveetil, Carsten Gehring and Andrew Salij for coming in and staffing. Combined stats are linked below. https://www.naqt.com/stats/tournament/standings.jsp?tourna...

Was the Abbey Road tossup under other arts or trash? Regardless, thanks to whoever wrote it. Really enjoyed it.

I'll be back off my Israeli gap year, taking my talents to Carleton College to join the team there (notable in not being anything like Miami).

Re: 2015 Intl. History Olympiad July 9-15
I just wanted to say that I, as a longtime highly competitive high school quiz bowl player, had a ton of fun at this event. To me, it did feel more like a series of competitions rather than some sort of summer camp. While the competition was not quite nationals-level fierce, there were a lot of exce...

Re: 2015 HSNCT discussion
The questions for this set on the whole were very good. There was certainly some history on the easier side, as well as some CE (dropping artificial islands first line for South China Sea notably sticks out). On the whole, though, the difficulty seemed good, with powers available if you had knowledg...

Re: NAQT Johns Hopkins Invitational - Baltimore, MD - 4.19.1
This tournament happened, with Richard Montgomery finishing first, Centennial A 2nd, George Mason 3rd and Centennial B 4th. Playoff and prelim stats are both up, although it would be nice to get combined stats (Michael?). Mostly, though, I wanted to post to say how well this tournament was run for a...

Re: HERMES at Richard Montgomery (MD) (Main-site) - 3.28.201
This tournament did end up happening with 22 teams. Maggie Walker beat Centennial A in the first game of an advantaged final to win the tournament and go undefeated. Quince Orchard A beat Wilmington Charter A in a matchup of 2 loss teams to finish 3rd. Other teams in the top 8 (in no particular orde...

Re: Blair Spring Tournament – Silver Spring, MD, 03/21/2014
RM had a great time at this tournament. 12 rounds by 5:30 was excellent, especially since there were a couple of rooms that made the morning move slowly (5 rounds in 3.5 hrs hurts a bit). I would especially like to thank Mr. Schafer for an excellent job TD'ing even with some issues from home on his ...

Re: HSQBRank 2014-15
Walter Johnson loses everyone except for Tommy, I believe, and they did in fact use pseudonyms at our tournament (their highest two scorers were Sameen and Nathan, just as they were everywhere else, and both are leaving). So they did not rotate pseudonyms? No they didn't rotate, sorry I didn't make...

Re: What Happens to DC-Area Quizbowl Next Year?
Now that both NSC and HSNCT are over, I though I'd offer my 2 cents on next year's prospects. First, though, while our NSC results around the area were impressive, HSNCT results were even more so. To have 6 teams at least T-21(MW, RM, WA, OM, Centennial, WJ, GDS) while not even including either Char...

Re: 2014 PACE NSC Questions Discussion
Can I see the tossups on mitzvot and first born sons? I got them both early, but I want to both see the rest of the clues as well as see if the content of the mitzvot tossup made commandments as an answer not correct in any sense.

Re: 2014 PACE NSC Questions Discussion
- That question on the mitzvot could have been more generous with the answerline; I talked to two other teams that negged it with "commandments" and didn't know the Jewish name until the giveaway. I concur with this sentiment. I powered this question, but I would like to see it in its ent...

Re: A Richard Montgomery BELLOCO Mirror 3/29/14 (Rockville,
I'm sorry about the confusion over the Charter/Maggie Walker game, that will happen with three protests sometimes. Maggie Walker won this tournament, followed by Western Albemarle, then WJ, then Centennial, then Charter fifth and Reese's Pieces (Loudon County) sixth. Stats should be up within the ne...
