I don't know if this is asking too much but can I see the stat adjustments for the sets this season? I am extremely curious about this.

So their will be 8 teams at IHSA state including Stevenson, IMSA, Auburn, OPRF, Uni Lab, Sandburg, Carbondale and Dunlap, assuming Auburn wins their sectional for the umpteenth time. Of these teams 3 were in the top 8 at NAQT state of the 5 that attended. To my knowledge all of these teams participa...

Re: Illinois '16-'17

A lot of the math questions seemed to be written by someone who doesn't really like math. Directional line segment?!?!? this might be the most boring math answer lines I have ever seen. They were writing a questions on vectors and this is the hard part they came up with. Also the cult of pythagoras ...

Barrington narrowly beat fremd in site 23 questions were very good with most math being non computational and there only being one of each agriculture (which was kind of history) and industrial arts.

1 Lincolnshire (Stevenson) 2 Barrington 3 Palatine (Fremd) 4 Mundelein (Carmel) 5 Wilmette (Loyola Academy) 6 Lake Forest (H.S.) 7 Palatine (H.S.) 8 Arlington Heights (St. Viator) seeds in our sectional... it sucks that only 1 team can make it to state because at least 4 of the top 8 teams are here,...

I liked the poll and it inspired me to look at some stats. I looked at all NAQT sets and 4 housewrites among teams ranked in the poll or who are returning 'good' players who powered from a previous nationals team. Check it. If anyone knows that there are more stats hit me up. https://docs.google.com...

Re: 2016 PACE NSC: June 4-5, Chicago

It was 100% fair in determining the top team and probably the top 16 but most teams don't come to the tournament thinking they are in that group this also affects things like small school and JV placement. If it were these are the top 10 teams and these are the rest then no issue would exist. I gues...

Re: 2016 PACE NSC: June 4-5, Chicago

I am not assuming the worst about the seeding committee. I simply think their job is impossible in the current system to differentiate the teams near the cut offs at 24, 48, and 72. I'd say 4 on each side so thats 24 teams or about a quarter of the field that either unfairly benefitted or was unfair...

Re: 2016 PACE NSC: June 4-5, Chicago

Both those results are from the fall and on the notion that trophies are awarded for wins we went 6-1 in the prelims. We beat TJ A. This was a surprise to all of us and maybe not inherently replicable but over the year we had beaten many Illinois teams in the top tier like Auburn and Stevenson. Your...

Re: 2016 PACE NSC: June 4-5, Chicago

I understand that PACE places a lot of importance on getting seeding right but I would like to say It's basically impossible especially with international teams. How did 4 teams in the top 28 end up in the same prelim bracket? If sorted by ppb that 28 becomes 18. This seems like a significant error.

Nonfiction Books in the Distribution

So this question might have an obvious answer, but where do books like "The Columbian Exchange" by Alfred Crosby or books like "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" fit in the distribution. I am just wondering because I just finished reading the latter and thought both due to the material it contains as w...

yes that may be true but that poses inherent issues for example many teams including us studied a lot right before the tournament and changed significantly. If you go based of of Fred Morlan's rankings TJ should have been tier II or III but was in the top 16. the other thing was that after losing 4 ...

Re: 2015 PACE NSC: June 6-7, Washington, DC

What method did PACE use to seed the teams and create the twelve prelim pools? Seriously though because I fell kind of weird about winning 11 games in a row and coming 49th. Because the people in my pool that beat us 3 were in the top 26, and one we lost to on the last tossup. And yes I want some p...
