Re: 2018 HSNCT discussion

Can I see the tossup on "relatively prime"? I negged it with "a + b = c" on the leadin, but I might have misheard what exactly it was asking for.

The tossup on “KD’s alternate twitter accounts” was the best thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life.

I don't think the stats for the final game between CCA and Oly A are in quite yet.

If you decided to do a Penn Bowl adjustment, there's the UCI Invitational.

Re: Midseason Poll, 2017-18

I actually weighted EFT/Penn Bowl/hard college things less heavily than regular difficulty stuff, partly because the PPB adjustments get kind of wonky when there's only a handful of high school teams playing a set, and also partly because I feel like the national tournaments (especially HSNCT) are a...

Re: On the Predictive Value of HSQBRank + the Poll

I understand - I was just referring to alternate spellings/abbreviations (like Canyon Crest/CCA) that happen for convenience reasons. Sorry if I was unclear. I've edited the specific teams out of my earlier post, though.

Re: On the Predictive Value of HSQBRank + the Poll

Can somebody provide a list of some alternate names top teams are using? For reference, a bunch of Canyon Crest's more notable results are under CCA (Penn Bowl and IS-170), which isn't immediately obvious.

Re: On the Predictive Value of HSQBRank + the Poll

Something that complicates things further is that HSNCT is a lot different than the NSC, at least for a few teams. Some times (TJ and DCC) are somehow gods at both, but I'd put my own team (a lot) higher in a NSC/housewrite ranking than in a HSNCT/NAQT ranking.

if you have lots and lots of cards try using specialized flashcard software (see: anki, mnemosyne). they use cool formulas to help you retain information and you don't need to have an internet connection

Could I see the bonus part on “alcohols”? I am aware that the pKa of an alcohol was given, but I’m pretty sure the Williamson synthesis uses an alkoxide, which wasn’t accepted.

turns out olympian (A and B!!!) are very very good, i'd put them just under arcadia
they seem to be an naqt team, and have a weirdly low power rate considering their (very!) good ppb.
they also never neg

Could we see the tossup on Lisbon? My teammate buzzed on the leadin and said "Portugal", and complained about the use of the pronoun "this port" because apparently Portugal means port or something.

Re: 2017 NSC set discussion

I really enjoyed playing this set. I liked the tossup on "harmonic" as we just recently covered Laplacians in class. Overall I really liked the math especially although the other science was also very good too.

Canyon Crest would also like to host Socal Champs, probably sometime in April.

Re: Pre-Nats Poll

P.S.: Canyon Crest, I still believe in you. Thanks man, I appreciate it. I think that these national polls are insanely hard to do, as there are so many mostly-isolated regions that are really hard to gauge (looking at California), so thank you to everyone who took the time to do their research and...

Canyon Crest also loses mythgod Nathan Mar, who was their top playoff scorer at PACE, but hopefully doesn't lose too much other depth.
