Re: 2017 NSC set discussion

As a whole I really enjoyed the tournament. While there were a lot of common link questions, I personally like them a lot. They add a fun twist to some questions, and I think doing more of them in easier tournaments would be cool to see. I also didn't notice too much variance in difficulty, but then...

Thank you for another great set of rankings! Can you share the PPB adjustments with us? Also, out of curiosity, how many school/ teams do you consider in total every time you make these?

Eric Mukherjee's Becoming and Being a Great Science Player should definitely be considered. Wacky Practice Formats has some fun/ good ideas but I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for.

Re: Indiana 2016-17

Updates: Harrison's BASQT mirror is still being considered, and we're optimistic given some of the feedback we've gotten. If my source (the oft incorrect Ben Anthony) is correct, Butler's NAQT tournament is a no-go, sadly. Tournament results: Harrison won at Boilermaker Buzzathon and The Dog Fight (...

Very much unrelated to the current conversation, but are any Illinois teams interested in a BASQT mirror on April 8 in West Lafayette, IN? We're considering running a tournament and would like to know if there's interest from neighboring states before solidifying plans. PM me if so.

Is anyone near Indiana (or anywhere at all, really) interested in a mirror of BASQT on April 8 in West Lafayette, IN (Harrison HS)? Let me know in some form if you are. We're considering running it.

Re: SHATEYAHRONYA II @ Powell, OH 1/7/17 GSAC OQBA

Congrats to DCC for winning. They were scary good! Thanks for a great event; our team had a lot of fun. The readers were probably the best and most friendly we've had at any tournament. GSAC was great, and so was the very talented Uber field, although we were a little disappointed that only 2 teams ...

Re: Boilermaker Buzzathon At Purdue (1-14-17) West Lafayette

Mr. Jastrzebski, Thank you for a very well run tournament! Our team thoroughly enjoyed it. Other than a bit of confusion in our room at the beginning, everything went great: a full 10 rounds, quick and accurate stats, finished at a reasonable time, nice prizes, good readers, etc. Our team will defin...

I'm speaking on behalf of my teammates, as I didn't attend this tournament, but will stats for this ever be posted? Today makes 4 weeks since the tournament. Don't think we've ever waited this long for stats.

Some updates: 1. Stats from Indiana Kick-Off are available here. Stats from all 4 of these teams were pro...

Indiana 2016-17

Official thread for Indiana quiz bowl, for the few of us left over here! Some notable things: First tournament for most Indiana teams is Kick-Off tomorrow here at Harrison! I'm excited. There appears to be a new tournament, "Indiana Academy Tournament", on April 1st at Ball State. Would lo...

Re: 2016 nAC

In response to Mr. Dillon, Mr. Thompson, and Chris's comments about the Harrison and Indiana quiz bowl programs, it is correct that any efforts thus far to convert entirely to NAQT/ pyramidal questions have failed, and I do not think this is likely to happen to our school/ state any time soon. Chris...

Re: 2016 nAC

On the topic of the NAC, I'd like to point out that I felt the general quality of the questions was improved over previous years. For example, there was a complete lack of multiple choice, matching, and spelling questions (yes those still exist...) this year, and the distribution was more acad...

I meant between games, as in you finished a game at, say, 1:30 PM and your next game was at...? The longest? I think 6 hours. On one hand, this was enough time to go wander the streets of New Orleans, which was fun but I'd rather be competing during the competition days. I'm confused about the 'rea...

Re: 2016 nAC

Excellent question Mr. Pinyan; I am not entirely sure myself but I believe it has to do with (1) tradition, and (2) the belief of some members on our team that playing a variety of formats is inherently better than focusing on one. If anyone is interested in discussing this issue over PM that's cool...

Re: Help with HSQBRank! (incl. HS teams at college tourneys)

I'm not sure which stats you're using for OQT, but NAQT has significantly different PPB recorded for Lisgar from what HSQB has. I'm using the HSQB one; SQBS reports tend to be messed up less than NAQT ones. A quick comparison between HSQB and NAQT shows that the discrepancy occurs in the match agai...

Do you take stats that are on NAQT's website but not the database? If so you are missing IN Kick-off https://www.naqt.com/stats/tournament-teams.jsp?tournament_id=6834 and Jefferson County Pre-Nationals https://www.naqt.com/stats/tournament-teams.jsp?tournament_id=7143 , both of which have PPB and p...

Thank you for the kind words, Nolan. My rankings are the same as yours. Stats from state are here. (Is there anyone else from IN here?) 1. Re: History Youtube Channels

It's History is made by the group that makes The Great War. Some of the subjects aren't very quiz bowl-y (such as the current series on the history of sex) but other subjects include The History of China and The Cold War. Also Epic History TV has only four videos but so far I like the style they use.

Re: Indiana 2015-2016

This seems like an appropriate thread for a first post! I generally agree with Nolan's predictions, although I think until Kickoff (or preferably an IS tournament) it's hard to tell who will be #1 between St. Joe's and Culver. I'm also not sure about Mishawaka; I didn't play them last year so I have...
