Re: Specific Question Discussion

Could you post the text of the consuls question? Recall it having a lead in about them getting governorships at the end of their term which also would apply to Praetors. It then went on (later) to discuss them being the highest on the cursus which I've at various points seen applied to censors inste...

Re: Thanks and General Discussion

Generally this tournament seemed to play well at the UK site, albeit skewing harder than I'd anticipated based on the announced difficulty, particularly in the sciences, which seemed to have very low power counts compared to other categories and appreciably worse bonus conversion (although that migh...

Re: The Spring Open: What Is to be Done?

We had a small discussion on the topic (well, at least tangentially related to option 1) at the end of last term about potential americanisation of OOT, and agreed that last year's method wasn't the optimal way to go about it in the future (particularly given our loss of Spence and Aidan). In the ca...

Re: UK Player Poll 2017: Now With More Tweed

For some context, here's a brief description of the Oxford players on the poll. ... Chris Stern Probably Oxford's best player heading into next year. ... This is deeply worrying given that I don't actually know anything. Also, are there any interesting stats along the lines of the ones Daoud did la...

Sounds great, if you could pick a time for the skype reading that allows people on the other side of the atlantic to play as well, that would be wonderful

On a related note, (as far as I'm aware in my capacity as treasurer) Oxford hasn't received an invoice (although I will admit to not having chased this), although I can't speak for the rest of the UK circuit.

Oxford Open 2017: General Discussion

This thread is for general discussion of OOT/OAT 2017. Thanks to the team of writers and editors who made this tournament happen, without any of Spence Weinreich, Daoud Jackson, Charlie Clegg, George Corfield, Tom de Bock, Oli Clarke, and Isaac Brown (and I'd like to think I make that list as well) ...

Re: 2017 (This) Tournament is a Crime General Discussion

I'd like to offer my thanks for this tournament, I had a great time, particularly in the science and music (although it felt like there was a large difficulty variance between bonus sets e.g. spin echo vs magnetic dichroism/ellipticity as hard parts, one of which was encountered in a second year cou...

Re: 2017 ACF Regionals - thanks and general discussion

I'd just like to express my thanks for this tournament. I really enjoyed the science, although at times, it felt like the biology tended slightly harder than the other categories (although that's' probably just because it's my worst science).

Re: ACF & Powers

There's a discussion of it in this thread ( http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=5611 ) which seemed fairly comprehensive. I'm not a massive fan of powers, as whilst they're fun on the rare occasions I actually get them, they make me play much worse and thus lose more, which isn...

Re: community question clinic

Yeah, my liking that question was almost entirely because I really like Tolkien, and even then, I almost certainly wouldn't have buzzed on that question until the mention of the helm and hauberk. It is objectively too hard for any tournament below Chicago Open appropriate without branching out from ...

9 One of this author’s poems draws inspiration for its first line from the Anglo-Saxon poem The Wanderer, and contains a number of traditional ubi sunt motifs. In another poem, this author wrote “Now far ahead the Road has gone / And I must follow, if I can / Pursuing it with eager feet”. This auth...

Re: 2016 Terrapin Specific Question Discussion and Errata

A couple of minor things that I remember from yesterday. In the question on Carbonyls, I think you dropped Felkin Ahn at the end of the first line, which felt very early and the question on violins mentioned scordatura in the first line which narrows it down to string instruments, even if you don't ...

Re: 2016 ACF Fall general discussion

My one complaint (that I still remember) is that the science could probably have done with a few more prompts, for example the relative permittivity question could probably have prompted on refractive index until clues on the Clausius Monsotti equation was mentioned and the oxidation question could ...
