Re: The Winningest Quizbowl Team of "All Time"

I think this is a really interesting project! Great work! Would you have the breakdown of the schools with the highest win percentage by era, by chance? I find it really interesting that UVA, Stanford, and GT are top three in win%!

New Team at the Virginia Military Institute

Hi All! I've recently (re)started a new quizbowl team over at VMI. If there are any incoming freshmen who are coming to VMI in the fall and want to play quizbowl, feel free to reach out and send an email. We don't expect to play in any tournaments this academic year (since it's almost over), but we ...

Re: Keeping Score During Practices

At our practices we have always kept score, for the reasons you listed under "pros". Additional reasons why we do so include 1) it trains players for in-game situations (e.g. knowing when to be extremely cautious, knowing when to not buzz no matter what), and 2) by keeping individual stat...

I once first-lined a tossup about the year 2000 because I saw an SNL skit. The buzzword was "lockbox".

Re: DC Metro Area Discussion - 2019-2020

The best team in the entire DC metro area will obviously be John Champe. This should be considered consensus in my unbiased opinion. In all honesty, there are some pretty good 5A teams - Tuscarora and Broadrun. I haven't played them in two years, but it seems like Woodgrove (4A) is getting really go...

Re: CALISTO (Regular HS, 2020)

We elected to have a smaller than usual amount of philosophy (.25/.25) because we believe that philosophy is not commonly learned in high school classes and is not a large area of amateur interest among high schoolers. In place of philosophy, we are asking a greater amount of computer science, astr...

Re: Public Trivia Nights into Quizbowl Play

We play with about 20 tables of roughly 8 people
So when you say this, do you have like a presentation up on a screen, a bunch of people at each table with like a sheet of paper to write down answers?

Re: Public Trivia Nights into Quizbowl Play

Hi all! I really like the suggestion of incorporating some military (even some older military history might be yielding) and Virginia-based "trivia". It was something I was also thinking about. I guess that means I'll have to learn some VMI and Military history (might be good to know consi...

Re: Public Trivia Nights into Quizbowl Play

This is a really good idea! And probably more practical in a college setting than posting a flyer or going from classroom to classroom. I'd be very interested in doing this at VMI. Do you all write the questions yourselves or find them from the internet? If you write the questions what kind of distr...

Re: Teams on the rise for next year?

I have to say for us, we lost all of our seniors, who were the leading scorers on our team, in addition to our coach. Potential competitiveness isn't really in the cards for us. But who knows.

Choosing A or B in HSAPQ Bonuses

I was wondering if there was any advantage in playing A or B for HSAPQ VHSL Question Sets. I generally have a better time playing B, because I feel as they include more science. If anyone has any advice that would be great!
