Re: TRASH Regionals Discussion

It would be great if a respected academic editor or two could consult with TRASH on such standards, but I suspect that is probably a pipe dream. So is TRASH doing anything to rectify this problem? Or is this as good as we can expect it to ever get with TRASH? Any respected academic editors who wish...

Re: TRASH Regionals Discussion

We changed editors for video games. Last year the editor, who was a hardcore gamer and collector, also ended up writing many of the questions. This year, with a new editor (me), the tossup answers intentionally tended towards well-known games because I wanted to avoid being too obscure and I'm not a...

Re: New National Trash Tournament in 2010?

I think you'd have better luck working with a regionals model, if nothing else to give people a taste of your tournament. While I have no doubt you'd get a decent field if you ran it in the mid-atlantic or the mid-west, you want a nationals, so you want to pull people from all over -- and it can be ...

Re: TRASHionals discussion

All this logistical trouble is one reason that we keep TRASHionals a two-day affair. Even with an experienced TD and a centralized location (all teams in one building), we still had delays. However, because rounds were spread over 2 days, the delays were more of an annoyance than a crippling problem...

Re: TRASHionals discussion

I can tell you that I personally had to use 3 different buzzers in my room over the course of the tourney, and at one point had to go door to door to find another room using the same (unfamiliar) model buzzers in order to replace a key part, so it caused a bunch of delays. If there were ~60 minute r...

Re: TRASHionals 11 Discussion

One of the benefits of having games in adjacent rooms in Holt became a disadvantage when audio questions could be heard through the walls. We were aware of this issue, but we were unable to come to a good solution -- one of the players was hard of hearing, so the audio questions in his room needed ...

Re: TRASHionals 11 Discussion

That segues into another criticism, that only 16 packets were produced for this two-day tournament. Sixteen packets is fine for a one-day tournament, but turned out to be too close for comfort for this national championship tournament. Having extra packets would have potentially allowed a better fi...

The sentence from the tossup isn't a direct quote cut & pasted from IMDB or wikipedia. Clearly the clue came from IMDB/Wikipedia originally, but that doesn't make it inappropriate. Nor is the failure to cite sources an issue -- if this were an academic paper, it would be a big problem, but not i...
