Re: How do you put Quiz Bowl on a resume?
I actually wrote my supplementary essay for my application to wustl on quizbowl! Specifically, I emphasized how it hugely helped me to develop curiosity about the world and how things within it connect, and also how I learned important skills like being part of a team, leadership, making connections...

Re: Missouri 18-19
Pretty sure, although, given the history of the program, it should come as no surprise, the level of talent we're seeing from the CCA-esque three headed monster of moses, Akshay, and Raj over at Ladue is unparalled, even when compared to recent years. I'd go so far as to say that they're stronger th...

There will also be an online mirror in the future, probably after the first week of July. As for the physical mirror, we are as of yet unsure of where we'll be able to read this, so stay tuned to this thread; we'll post updates here.

This was done at ACF nats this year (and may have been done in previous years idk) There's a difference between YouTube videos (which is where the ACF Nationals videos are, from 2012 on) and Facebook Live. Think about it. How many people have a Facebook page? And how many quizbowl organizations hav...

Haven't heard much about Private/Charter Division. How do you think that will be sizing up so far considering it is only 32 teams and it being new to SSNCT? And I know that NAQT hasn't updated the awards section yet on the SSNCT information page, but how many trophies do they plan on handing out in...

Re: Neg Control
I'm going to revive this thread with some advice I heard from a Missouri quizbowl sage: a good goal to aim for is for your neg to power ratio to be at or under 1:1, and your neg to total questions answered in tournament ratio should be at or under 1:3. It's definitely a solid baseline, at least.

Re: Small School Pre-Nationals Discussion
prediction: Hallsville wins SSNCT, Sam is top scorer (for traditional public division ofc) Okay so we've only played them once and won't see them again until nats but I think it's safe to say as for small schools (and in the future maybe schools in general) in Missouri we will both be dominant force...

I always find that either foreign countries' patriotic music (Especially British because then you can understand the lyrics) and 50 cent's "In da Club" work best. Judge me all you want. EDIT: If this thread is still about general quizbowl stimulants, I find that a lot of good players also...

Re: Missouri 2016-2017
I think it largely comes down to difficulty. I may be horribly wrong, but it seems on easier question sets MICDS has had the edge and as the difficulty increases, Ladue claims more of the advantage. I have yet to play Hickman this year but I'm pretty sure they lack a literature/fine arts player, I ...

Re: Missouri 2016-2017
I'd say Ladue and Hickman are second place contenders. After that, it's kind of a tough call - there are a lot of close teams - but MICDS is definitely up there, as well as Rock Bridge and Helias. After that, I'd say it goes between Orchard Farm and Marquette. Obviously, though, our best team right ...

Our conference varsity matches use MSHSAA-style questions provided by NAQT but JV matches have always used questions provided by QG. I wonder how their upcoming season will be affected by this.

Introducing new moderators to the game
I have a friend interested in moderating at a tournament we're attending soon, but they don't know anything about the game (other than the matches they've seen us play in the past) and have no past experience with moderating. Any tips on how to introduce them to the game in general, and the more spe...
