Re: TAILS (MS/HS easy, 2020-2021)

Wanted to give a positive review of this set. My teams finished the Pennsylvania mirror of this set, and our middle school kids and others at the tournament at a variety of experience levels really enjoyed this set. Lots of opportunities for novices to buzz, but still some content that felt more hig...

Re: Pennsylvania MS Tournament Online (3/13)

I want to echo Coach Dzurik's words -- great to see teams at the middle school level from Wallenpaupack (Hey, Coach Neenan!) and the Bethlehem area, and always good to measure ourselves against teams from Great Valley. A big thanks to Ananya and the rest of the group that organized and read for the ...

Re: Pennsylvania MS Tournament Online (3/13)

When I told my players the list of schools, a few were worried they'd have to answer questions in French! Look forward to seeing you at the event shortly, Coach Dzurik -- exciting to have a Pennsylvania-exclusive middle school competition, and hope that we can continue an event like this in the futu...

Re: Keeping Score During Practices

I've been trying something new during practices for our middle school team that has two fairly strong players, three players who can get buzzes, and some newer players who need to be encouraged to take chances to buzz in. The A team faces an (overlarge) B team with no penalties for negs other than c...

Re: ACF should rename its "Division II" classification

As someone new to the community, I've wondered why a promotion/relegation format commonly used in outside-the-US football isn't more often suggested for both college and state high school quiz bowl annual championships. Given the wide variety of resources and traditional interest in quiz bowl across...

Re: Bulldog Buzzer Battle - April 14, Berwick - Philly Cstea

Congratulations to Hughesville A, champions of the inaugural Bulldog Buzzer Battle novice tournament in their first ever Saturday tournament. Hughesville held on after building up an early lead on the underclassmen of Delaware Valley A for the title. 3rd and 5th place matches were “school derbies” a...

Thanks to Coach Neenan, the Wallenpaupack team, and all of the readers and staff for a well-run tournament at the Big Lake Brawl. Getting home from a quiz bowl tournament before dark -- in February -- was quite a treat. And congratulations to Delaware Valley on the tournament victory!

Re: Big Lake Brawl at Wallenpaupack (03/18/17) (Hawley, PA)

This did happen on Sunday 3/26. "Ilium" team of three had a surprise upset of Delaware Valley A in the full-round robin prelims, then held on in the second game of an advantaged final against DV A to take the tournament. Our teams (Berwick) had a lot of fun competing with students from DV,...

Re: 2016 PACE NSC: June 4-5, Chicago

These accusations of unfairness in a round-robin to a flight cut format (eliminate teams from certain spots of contention) seem very much overstated. Is seeding important? Yes. Does PACE place a lot of emphasis on getting the seeding right? Yes. What's the problem there? More to the point, however,...
