Re: Math Monstrosity - General Discussion
I will soon be sending gathering everyone who's expressed interest in editing for this in a group chat (probably on facebook, but if anyone has a preference or ideas I'm open to suggestions), an announcement will follow a couple days after that. We'll have optional packet submission, so you have th...

Re: Parts of the Lit Canon worth the time to read
The QBWiki has a comprehensive list of all the books worth reading that come up in quizbowl. ^My new favorite forums post. I thought that Great Expectations was quite good. I found The Stranger to be at least thought-provoking (and it's very short). The Catcher in the Rye is also short and fun for ...

Re: Math Monstrosity - Specific Question Discussion
In regards to repeated clues: Another clue that was still repeated several times by the NSC running of this tournament was that the smallest non-abelian group is the dihedral group of order 6. I think it was used as a clue in two questions with answers relating to dihedral group (maybe?) and was a c...

Re: Math Monstrosity - Specific Question Discussion
At least three answerlines (long line, Banach-Mazur game, bivectors) have never come up in quizbowl before (at least not in any set in the packet search), whether as an answerline, bonus part, or clue. Bivector appears to have been an answer to a non-mathy bonus in Chicago Open 2015, Round 11, maybe?

Re: Math Monstrosity - General Discussion
[EDIT] Some of this is probably in the wrong forum. I did not realize there was more than one. I apologize if this is the case. [EDIT] I tried to remove a lot of the stuff that does not belong here. First, this tournament was by far the most enjoyable one I have ever played in my quiz bowl career. I...

Re: 2017 NSC set discussion
Overall, I think my questions were harder than the rest of the set--almost certainly harder than the math--I apologize for this I definitely agree with this. One of my main qualms with the math tossups was that college-level physics content was not avoided, while it was for math (I understand why t...

Re: Math Monstrosity at NSC
In my opinion, it was quite well-run considering the delays because of NSC matches and the fact that a lot of teams that signed up did not come. The questions were quite good and difficult and many of the players that came were extremely impressive. The Ununtiable Twine wrote:How did this go?

Good luck to the Indiana teams going to nationals soon! I know Zionsville is going to HSNCT and Harrison and St. Joseph are going to PACE NSC. Also, congratulations to the three Indiana teams that are on the Morlan rankings: Culver (169), St Joseph (156), and Harrison (91).

Re: Indiana 2016-17
The following was just sent out by the tournament director of Indiana's state tournament. Game Format Games will be NAQT with Lightning. There are two halves of 8 tossups each that can lead to 3-part bonuses [no computational math or trash]. Between the halves, there will be a lightning round of two...

Re: A Comprehensive List of Science Topics
I think this is a fantastic idea for new players, considering underclassmen may not have the access to AP level classes This is true, but I think that science could be learned better for these people through free online content. For example, Yale Open Courses has some great introductory physics mat...

I don't know if this completely pertinent to quiz bowl, but I really enjoyed watching Bernstein's Norton Lectures, "The Unanswered Question." For someone who does not know much music theory, they could be quite informative.

Re: Indiana 2016-17
The prices we are thinking for the BASQT mirror are:
65 dollars per team
-$5 for buzzer (max 1)
-$10 for distance
-$10 for moderator
-$5 for 2nd/3rd/etc teams
minimum $40.
More information about BASQT can be found here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... 09&t=18742

You'd be welcome to some events over in Illinois as well - such as the University of Illinois' tournaments! We'll be glad to welcome however many Indiana teams that want to attend. I think one of our goa...
