I'm going to add one more thing to this that I haven't heard yet - know WHY you want to expand and study more. Whatever you do in quizbowl, as in life, you should do for the right reasons if you want it to be meaningful. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be able to produce more for your team. A...

14th Hoover Invitational Tournament (Hoover, AL) 11/10/2018

We will hold the 14th Annual Hoover Invitational this year on Saturday, November 10th, 2018, on NAQT's IS-177, with a JV division run on SCOP 9. We will likely not offer a novice bracket this year due to space issues, but teams that are interested in fielding a novice squad (any grade, but with two ...

I've seen Orthodox Jews simply say "buzz" instead of pressing a buzzer. It's then up to the moderator to figure out if the verbal "buzz" came before or after another player rang in with a buzzer. NAQT rules explicitly allow a player to "signal in an appropriate manner" if they cannot use a buzzer (...

I'm in agreement with all of the above, but particularly so if you are a team that is new to an event or location. It is already difficult enough to seed a large event without adding this to the mix, and it really serves no purpose--indeed, it can give the appearance that you are deliberately trying...
