ALABAMA PREVIEW: (Relocated from top of thread) I spent about two hours today writing a preview of the state, only to somehow delete it before I posted it. I am really, really, unhappy about that. I'm not going back and reconstructing all the PPG data and stuff I did right now, because I might lose ...

Re: Alabama 2016-2017

That's a fair question, Brett, and I don't think it is too early to ask. In my opinion, Team Alabama absolutely should show improvement for next year. Sharath was outstanding at the tournament, and he is only going to improve, so if he returns, that's a big first step. The biggest obstacle from last...

Tourney in search of a set to mirror!

The Hoover Invitational, one of the largest tourneys in the Southeast, is looking for a high-quality set to mirror on October 15th, 2016. We understand that this is a very early date, but we always schedule early, and we hope that one of the fine college or high school housewrites out there will be ...

Studying math theory

With the new move towards tossing up theoretical math in the last couple of years, and particularly coming off the NASAT, I was interested in hearing how people are studying or prepping math theory. Are there any good texts or clusters of information hat would help a team get started with this? I ha...

Re: Odds of NAQT producing more sets per year

Just as an addendum, Hoover switched this year away from NAQT for our major tournament SPECIFICALLY because of this issue. We know that the NAQT sets are in very high demand in state, but we are also trying to promote opportunities for other teams to host in-state, and so we gave up our normal NAQT ...

I had to take a couple days before I could post. This was a really, really tough year in ASCA, and Hoover took a really, really, tough set of losses at State. Re: Incentivizing Outreach: A Negative Mirror Fee?

Many coaches, who are your TD core, are intimidated enough by the giant mess of regulations involved in being a coach for a team and...

Re: Idealized QB software - what would it look like?

What's so great about SQBS? I would have classified it as adequate for most tournaments (but just barely), and woefully inadequate for many (large ones, ones using less common formats, etc.). I think the natural way to address your goal would also involve replacing SQBS. Jim Puls has already done a...

Idealized QB software - what would it look like?

I am in the early stages of trying to sketch out an ideal program for QB work. Here are the basic premises I'm starting from: 1) SQBS is awesome, and there isn't a lot of reason to try to replicate what it does well. Therefore, the main purpose of this software would be to handle two areas that I do...

Very true. Additionally, however, I think the reason I would point to that the analogies don't hold is that we don't have the right value system in those situations, Lee. Sadly, a coach in high school is hired or fired based on wins, not on what they do or don't do correctly. We saw that in Hoover f...

This is not something that should ever be in question. If you hear your player give what you know to be an incorrect answer, as the coach, you MUST recognize that and say something. Anything else is undermining the very basis of the game we are playing. Even if you want to make some sort of argument...
