This man chose Jacques Turgot [tur-GOH] over Adam Smith as the greatest economist of the 18th century; The Wall Street Journal chose him over John Maynard Keynes [kaynz] as the most important economist of the 20th. Is there a place where these NE stats are available online? I thought only the preliminary post was made. The team statistics have been sent to the attending schools, and will be available online within a day or so. Due to a few serious scorekeeper errors, the individual statistics need to be revis...

The earlier claim that there were no economics tossups at all is simply incorrect. I can cite from memory that there was a tossup on a Ronald Coase article (whose title I don't remember); I negged it. It did seem like there were too few economics questions and too few linguistics questions. You're ...

I found this year's questions to be pyramidal without exception, which was impressive. The tossups seemed to be a line or so shorter than last year's ACF Regionals set, and in a good way. The questions were clue-dense without dragging on. I enjoyed hearing the Brown packet, perhaps because it was sl...

We're up to 32 teams. I don't expect the field to grow very much after this point, but we still have room for more. This is not unheard of. One tournament I attended in high school has (or at least had) pop culture themes. For example, each round of the day featured 1/1 on baseball and 1/1 on Harry Potter. Another tournament I attended had a Chicago theme. Not surprisingly, the tournament took place in suburban C...

ACF Fall 2005 would certainly be accessible enough for passersby at a club fair. However, the questions are too long for that environment, which favors brief pitches. Shorter questions with easier lead-ins are better for holding people's attention long enough for them to answer the question. Giving ...

There should be a prompt on the family name of a monarch when the family name is part of a commonly used English language name of the monarch. Since the word Comnenus is often given in the names of the important Comneni, I would say that a prompt on "Comnenus" likely ought to have been a promptable ...

Incidentally, I've also been AMAZED at how many tossups my team gets that they attribute to The Family Guy. Yes, it comes up too much, even though it is a great show. One hopes that Family Guy doesn't just help people get questions about Family Guy. Off of the top of my head, I can think of Family ...
