Cold-calling

I'm trying to recruit some new teams in the area. Who is the best person to contact? If their web page lists a science bowl type of person, I contact them. But otherwise? Principal? Vice principal? National Honor Society type of person? I'm also trying to see if I can get some middle school teams in...

Re: "How to Host a Tournament" Discussion - All Commentary Here!

I won't comment at length, but one of the most important things a novice tournament director should know is how to change tournament schedules on a dime should there be no-shows or a team leaving before rebracketing or whatever. That means keeping tournament bracketing software handy if a team has ...

Releasing unused ACF submissions

I don't know if this is part of ACF rules, but I'd like to see something done with unused packet submissions, even if it's just to release them, unedited (after the tournament, of course), as further practice questions, or something. It's not like the people who wrote the questions can recycle them,...

Certainly, we could have done so. I'm not honestly certain how interested other schools would have been; some would and some wouldn't, probably. Hosting the packets and sending a password has almost the exact same security risk as just sending the packets. If somebody can access the e-mail to get the packets, they can access the e-mail to get the password, and then get the packets. The only benefit is possibly some sort of trace or IP tracki...

I guess my observation wasn't very universal. And my set of known quiz bowl coaches is somewhat small.
