Re: All videos of Quiz Bowl

Last year's Idaho state championships for the INL Science Bowl. http://idahoptv.org/asxgen.cfm?showfile=/INL/INL2008_hi.wmv This year's state championship will be in a couple of weeks. It will be aired the following Saturday, and should be online soon. Edit: After watching this, I've determined that...

Re: ICT and Friday night games

To add to what others were saying, as a grad student and TA, I teach a class. My class meets on Friday afternoon, and while I could potentially find somebody to cover the class for me, it's not something I want to do. I suppose this is something that affects DI teams more than DII teams.

Re: Boise State tournament, April 18: Boise, Idaho

Just to bump this thread up, in case schools have been getting my flyers and letters have been here looking for it. Tentatively, River Stone International School will be in attendance. Hopefully, I'll be able to meet more coaches and schools today as the larger regional high schools will be on campu...

Boise State tournament, April 18: Boise, Idaho

We're pleased to announce the first NAQT tournament in Idaho. I don't know if there's more than one other person from Idaho on here, but I'll be including this site in the information about the tournament, so I'll post it here, too. Our yet-unnamed tournament will be held on April 18 on the campus o...

Re: First tournament in Idaho

By "pass on the discount," I didn't mean that I'd give it up, but that I'd pass it along. I get discounted costs for hosting the tournament (free packets), so I offer discounted prices for attending. But then, next year, I'd have to raise the price to match the increased cost because I won't have fr...

First tournament in Idaho

First-time high school TD. We're hosting the first-ever NAQT tournament in Idaho. We hosted the collegiate NAQT SCT tournament here, so I can do a lot of the logistical work--reserving rooms, getting readers/volunteers (especially since we won't be playing, we can work the tournament), and so on. Th...

Re: SCT 2009 discussion

NAQT sent the hosts a phone number to call, saying that the 800 number would be unavailable. Was nobody answering that phone?

(I called with a question around noon MST, and it was answered.)

Re: Northwest NAQT Sectional, 2/7/09 at Boise State University

We're done at Boise. We ended up with a double round robin. UW won the tournament (finishing 9-1 and beating Gonzaga in the playoff), and Gonzaga (8-2) was the top D II team.

Complete results can be found here:

Re: Northwest NAQT Sectional, 2/7/09 at Boise State University

University of British Columbia was a no-show. :(
This left us with just 6 teams, so we're doing probably a triple round robin.

After the first round of our round robin, Gonzaga and UW A are at 4-1.

Re: Northwest NAQT Sectional, 2/7/09 at Boise State University

BYU will not be coming. Barring any new and unexpected entries (or withdrawals), the field will be:

UW (2)
UBC (2)
Gonzaga (1 or 2)
Boise State (2 or 3)
Lakeside*

*I'm still not sure about Lakeside. I haven't heard back from NAQT about this, but Michael said he'd look into it.

I'll need to clarify that, then.

Gonzaga will be coming with 1 team. Or 2 teams, if they can get funding.

Re: Northwest NAQT Sectional, 2/7/09 at Boise State University

If Lakeside finishes in the top 15% (there's a good chance they will, given that they won the Northwest ACF Fall), they'll qualify for the high school championship. I think this is the nearest NAQT qualifying tournament for them to play in.

All tentative, but so far: University of Washington, 2 teams (Div I and Div II) University of British Columbia, 2 teams (Div I and Div II) Lakeside High School, 1 team (Div II) Boise State University, 2 or 3 teams to make an even number of teams (1 Div ! and 1 or 2 Div II) Hoping for, but haven't he...

We'll be there. We're in Seattle anyway. Why not? And we've got the week off, so we don't have to be back for class the next day.

(Sorry, I didn't see the companion announcement for the TRASH tournament.)

Re: ACF Fall Northwest @ University of Washington - Sat, 11/22

I have enough of a commitment from players here at Boise State to say that we'll be there. There are 4, maybe 5 of us who will make the long drive. (But we have Thanksgiving week off, so we don't have to be back for class on Monday!)

I'm excited about this.

Re: Tournament attendance

BYU has a team. They attended the ACF Regional in Spring '08. They're trying to contact other schools in the SLC area, but I don't know how much luck they'll have. I just contacted somebody I know at Idaho State and at Gonzaga. Mike Bentley (formerly of Maryland, and now living in the Seattle area) ...

Re: Tournament attendance

I am on that list. I see three tournaments announced for the fall (well, two--one was canceled). I didn't know if I'm missing any, or if some aren't being reported. That sounds like a small number, especially since I didn't see any in the Bay area, which is closer.

Is there a list of all tournaments in a region? (Specifically, the west coast, or northwest.)

I see lots of individual announcements, but nothing more comprehensive.

Re: Productive discussion about expanding to new schools

Also, I believe Mike Bentley from Maryland is going to Washington for grad school next year and trying to start a club, so that's slightly less of a drive than Vancouver if he can get something started up there. Google maps says Vancouver is 2.5 hours from Seattle, vs. more than 7.5 to Boise. Still...

I'm in a similar position as Kyle. I have slightly more exposure to the world of academic competitions, but about as much non-CBI experience. Re: Productive discussion about expanding to new schools

http://www.hcasc.com/enroll.asp I used this website to find email addresses of all HCASC teams within several hours of MSU and invite them to our tournament on April 12. Unfortunately many of the people on this list are Campus Activities Coordinators and probably don't know what I'm talking about a...
