Re: Illinois '08-'09

I just spent the day cleaning out the Scholastic Bowl cabinet in my room at Fenton and it has put me in a reflective mood. Why, you ask? Because I came across a binder full of old questions sets and it reminded me just how far Illinois quizbowl has come in the past 20 years, what with IL teams havin...

Re: Illinois in HSNCT

It was very good to see the whole NAQT crew put on a great tournament Agreed. Despite being the largest HSNCT to date, I thought this year's was the most well-organized. Kudos to NAQT for running such an outstanding tournament. Congrats to all the Illinois teams and especially Auburn, New Trier, an...

Re: Illinois '08-'09

Since no know has mentioned it yet (and since I have to catch an early plane tomorrow), I just thought I'd wish all the Illinois teams competing at PACE this weekend the best of luck! Despite whatever setbacks and problems we might have in IL quizbowl, I think we can still take comfort and pride in ...

Ok, let's try it again. This link should take you to the complete tournament stats: http://www.fenton100.org/ourschool/clubs_activities/Academic_Team/2009%20IL%20NAQT%20State%20overall%20stats_standings.html This was my first timing using SQBS, so I apologize for any errors. Apologies.

I"ll get that fixed momentarily.

Make that tomorrow. My computer's giving me issues now, but I will hopefully have stats up tomorrow.

Re: Illinois NAQT State Championship at Fenton HS (3/7/09)

Before I go home and crawl into bed after a long, but extremely satisfying day of quizbowl, I wanted to post the final results for the tournament. Championship Bracket: 1. Rockford Auburn A 2. Carbondale 3. New Trier A 4. Loyola A 5. Saint Viator 6. Oak Park-River Forest A 7. Rockford Auburn B 8. Li...

Another quick update on the field:

5. Loyola B
6. New Trier

Re: Illinois '08-'09

I am hoping to get my team to NAQT State, so it'll be fun. Does anybody know which teams are going to this (If it is a big deal or not). As of today, the following schools have said they are sending teams to NAQT State: New Trier Loyola Carbondale Auburn St. Viator Lisle (probably) Fenton Hopefully...

Turnabout results from Fenton: 1. Carmel Catholic 2. Lisle 3. Glenbard North 4. Geneva Naiomi of Lisle was the high scorer on the All-Tournament team with 28 toss-ups. Congratulations to Carmel! Re: Illinois '08-'09

I moderated at Kaneland today (and was paired up with Greg Gauthier) but I can't say what happened past Round 6. Going into the playoffs, here was the seeding after 4 morning rounds (80/80): 1. Wheaton-Warrenville South A 2. Byron 3. St. Viator 4. Wheaton North 5. Sycamore 6. Stirling 7. Kaneland A ...

Re: Illinois '08-'09

I'm really interested to hear about the lower brackets of the tournament and whether or not they liked sticking around for the entirety of the tournament. The re-bracketing round robin is something that is done often in other states, but single-elimination is the norm here. While this is certainly ...

Re: Illinois '08-'09

Well, I hope things are going well at Northwestern. We just got back from the Lincoln-Way East tournament and I'm feeling a bit cheated. In the interest of saving time, teams were only guaranteed four matches of 16 toss-ups. Had my team done better, I'd probably be in a better mood, but the whole th...

Re: Illinois '08-'09

don't know if the WSC would be interested, but given the decent level of competitiveness (certainly better than anything EPHS/Ridgewood would provide), the geographic proximity (your area basically overlaps with ours), and the fact that wsc scobol lost the Provisos two years ago and might have some...

Re: Illinois '08-'09

On the subject of schools, anyone know if any new teams will be joining our legion of 500 this year? Have we made any inroads into the vast wasteland know as Chicago (Latin & St. Ignatius excluded of course)? Something else I'll throw out to my more experienced brethren... For the last two years I'v...

Final places 1. Illinois 186 2. Florida 185 3. South Carolina 165 4. Kentucky 147 5. Tennessee 110 6. California 75 On the final team bonus (I'll describe it later), Illinois scored just 9, but that was just enough to hold off Florida, who got 21. Full commentary coming soon. WOW. Congratul...

Sorry for the delay. I was out visiting Grandma and the folks. I'll wrap up by saying that one coach noticed me taking notes as Chip conducted a match. He leaned over and asked if I was Matt Weiner. Ask me nicely, and I'll tell you my reply. Anyway, after the gentleman asked if I was Matt Weiner, I ...

Re: NAC Schedules

I'll add some comments of my own to supplement what Mr. Egan has already said. This was my first time observing NAC and I tried to keep an open mind. However, over 7 rounds, I saw too much that was laughable or just plain bad. Sorry if this goes long. A. I did not hear any questions that were well-w...

Re: Illinois '07-'08

Well, I just got back from my trip to DC and PACE. I have to say the PACE-NSC was awesome, superior to the HSNCT in both questions quality and format in my opinion. GMU was a great setting (despite torrential rain on Saturday) and Dr. Chuck and the other organizers were terrific. I will say that the...
