Re: Greenville Tournametn Format Discussion
Andy, Perhaps. Perhaps not. It would certainly be an interesting question to ask players at tournaments: What do you enjoy the most about quizbowl? I am not sure many, if any of them, would say they liked "Part 3 of the bonuses" or "Hearing 20 tossups instead of 15" or "Play...

Re: Greenville Tournametn Format Discussion
Fred, OK. I knew you weren't specifically focusing on the N. Greenville tournament. But, I don't feel any of us are in the position to fairly and accurately determine when accommodating more teams causes harm to other teams trying to improve. If being able to add more teams to a tournament by making...

Re: Crusader Cup (N. Greenville U) 3 October 2009: NEW DATE
Andrew, You're not too idealistic. Believe me, I like having my teams, even my freshmen, hear all the questions (including the hard stuff) that they can (if possible). Most of my kids really enjoy quizbowl, and most of them want to get good at it by learning stuff beyond the basics. But, sometimes a...

Andrew, you are correct and I agree with everything you say for many teams out there, especially the top 10-20% of teams. However, your last statement does not include a certain group of schools/students out there playing high school quizbowl today: those that do it for fun, to have a good time, and...

In (somewhat) continuation of what Ms. Hirsch wrote on the UGA Classic City thread, the top teams (at least those in 5A - I don't know enough about the other classifications) look to be quite strong again this year. Even though all of the top 4-5 teams were without 1-2 of their top players, I though...

There were a few repeats within 1-2 of the later rounds, but nothing that drastically affected the results. While the question difficulty did increase as the...

Since we are traveling so far, whatever option gives us the most games possible while still finishing at a reasonable hour is the one we would prefer. Re: North Georgia Academic Team Tournament (Jan 9, 2010)
Doesn't NAQT balance by the entire set and not by the individual round? Thus, it could happen that 1-2 math comp, 1-2 trash, and 1-2 current events tossups all come up in the first 16, while the last 4 tossups could be more academic in nature. As stated before, having 3-6 tossups out of 16 come from...
