Re: Getting Better at Philosophy

Getting better at philosophy is way more trouble than it's worth. Buzzing on non-title clues is often impossible because descriptions are often so vague as to be useless, and even when they are precise, it's hard to know that this is one of the questions where such clues are actually useful. Also, p...

Protests are good now because they're completely painless and very easy to lodge and resolve. Andy Watkins Thick Cut-Style Protests (tm) are cumbersome and awkward. Re: Eyes That Do Not See

I think your worry over realness is misguided and emblematic of a way that the Ryan v. Seth, Sorice, Jerry et. al debate of realness could be misinterpreted. Specifically, arguing that quizbowl should reward something called "real knowledge" doesn't mean that (1) you are never allowed to learn clues...

Alright, maybe it's too strong to say I "love" Billiards at Half-Past Nine. I was going to make this a separate thread, but it's not really worth it. It's nice to say stuff like "anyone who's read or read about Billiards at Half-Past Nine is likely to know it" but that's pretty obviously wrong. But the point is this *didn't* happen at the end of the match, but afterward. Team 2 (perhaps we can pseudonymously call them Arleton-Cay instead?) figured out they should have been ruled correct when they were talking to Rob outside the room after Team 1 had already moved on. Re: Answer lines and moderator errors

There's no reason to view it differently, especially since the negative results are still the same (namely, a team gets a win jerked out from under them without even being able to know that there were points being disputed). If a team hears the moderator say the answer, hears the answer they gave in...

I'm not sure I agree that Team 2 did nothing wrong: specifically, it seems they failed to protest a question when they were actually in the right. In fact, this exact situation seems to be why the "protest before the next question" rule exists. That rule ensures that protests (at least the ones that...

This was a great idea and great execution too.
