"Painfully" easy giveaways may not be painfully easy for everyone; the point of a giveaway is to make sure that most teams can convert the tossup, as dead tossups kinda suck. So there's nothing wrong with giveaways like this.

I actually only know more about the author Ring Lardner than any other author. Granted, this is a pretty small sample size, but I hope to see at least 1/1 Lardner in tournaments from here on out.

Folks, this tournament is still happening. Better to register early and often, although I guess teams who are waiting to see if they're in the It's Academic semifinals will hold off on registering. But if that doesn't apply to you, register!

Not to pile on or anything, but there were some significant problems with this tournament, some of which are a little different from the perspective of a less-than-elite team. I'll probably edit them in once I get some fucking sleep.

Honestly, you can become an almost passable high school generalist [like me!] just by playing quizbowl a lot. I didn't get to practice, I didn't study very much, but I learned a bunch through quizbowl osmosis. Playing quizbowl helps you get better at quizbowl. Studying makes you even better.
