Was your teammate really conferring or was it an example of pseudo-conferring that the one moderator was so upset about? I have to say I pretty much agree with the moderator. He buzzed in on the last question of the game, turned to me quickly and said "It's Mount McKinley, right?" I only replied, "...

Terrible, terrible day for us [Blake.] 1-5, and I negged us into oblivion in our game against Monticello. One of my teammates blew a game against Fairfax by trying to confer with me on the last tossup of the game. Fairfax was given their own qustion, and we lost 180-190. Well run tourney though. Lot...

We decide our TV team strictly in practice, though doing well in Tournaments certainly makes the coach feel better. Showing up for practice everyday was the only reason I made the TV team last year.

Byko-
Mr. Keegan of Blake recently held a 1 team v. 1 team tournament with 6 rounds and full results, including point totals verified by both team captains. He said he'd be happy to send you the results but needs you email.

Eh, personally? I'm fairly green at this, so I'd have to either say a game against Jefferson or Whitman [which was something like last month]. I think we actually fared better against Jefferson; small consolation, though, considering we lost by something like 600 points.

I think you're right, considering the Gonzaga I saw didn't quite look like the one I remember beating us earlier this year.
Or the above poster could be right.

Not much help, as Bykowski will have his rankings up soon, but here are the games I read for. 1st round: WJ vs. TJ D [Not TJ D- TJ did not have a D team, so instead it was Blake's 2nd and 4th players and 2 guys from South Lake. Team referred to from now on as "South Blake."] 2nd round- South Blake v...

I was informed to be there at 8. [I'm a staffer for the tourney; if I am reading for your game, I apologize in advance.] Obviously, the best thing to do would be to email Mr. Caulfield at the address he gave, but if he doesn't write back in time, I'd say use my 8 o clock as a guideline. A little aft...

I believe my father sent you an email regarding this.

Unfortunately, we don't live near any of the 3 aforementioned cities. Any chance you could go to the DC MEtro area? You'd get a lot of interest there. If not, please instruct us on the "video" process.

[Hope this is real.]

Going to tourneys is interesting just to see the variation of buzzers brought. We'll always have at least one Judge [referred to by some of the younger members of the team as "those gas-pedal buzzers"], the more traditional buzzers [Black, square red button, green or red light on the buzzer], perhap...

We started as 12 [whoo!] and ended up at 10. But it worked out as planned, because our record was 3-3 and, indeed, we did not make the playoffs.

I really, really dislike the Judge. You really have to jam the darn "gas-pedal" system to make it work, and, as mentioned before, if one goes down, it takes the rest with it. I understand that there's a trade-off between ease of use and durability, but I just don't like it. It's clunky. The buzzer s...

Blake is indeed traditionally good, especially at speed questions. I don't really know about this year though. They were essentially two-women team, and they both graduated. I think the bigger problem is that you guys don't really go to a lot of stuff. It was more than once that Mr. Caulfield went ...

I wouldn't completely discount Blake; I see several of my team members with a fierce drive and determination to get ahead, and I can see them becoming quite good before the end of the season. We'll probably start off weakly; Guess we'll see at the PB tournament.

Bombs In Boston!

... or not. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard the story of the bomb squad being called in in Boston to defuse dangerous Lite-Brites. Turns out the toys were planted not by terrorists, but by promoters of an Adult Swim show.

I only saw a bit of it. The commercials didn't hold my interest, but the one with Robert Goulet was pretty funny [if only as an indication of how old he's getting.] Also, the Bud Lite ad that spoofed horror movies ["He's got an axe!" "Yeah, but he's got Bud Lite!"] was also chuckle-worthy.

Question: Something about music, a subject I'm pathetic in. It was asking for the term that describes when a piece increases in volume quickly. This is a bonus and it bounces back. We have no idea, so I say Answer: "Al Dente," as a joke. The captain glares at me, and says no answer. Other team: *nod...
