I don't know where you get the idea that opera is a separate category from classical music. That sounds entirely crazy an in fact has never been "established" by any quizbowl convention anywhere. I guarantee that a female quizbowl player a) has a nontrivial total of female friends, and b) shares some part of her own academic interest with those friends.
