Re: Video?
Yeah, I videotaped this year's ICT final, but it wasn't my video camera, so Arnav Moudgil is the person who actually has the video. I don't believe he's put it online in any format yet, though.

Re: Chicago Open 2008: The End Comes...Beyond the Omega Point
I don't know how widespread this knowledge is, but if you end up being stuck with 16 teams, you can still do 2 initial brackets of 8 teams each, and each team will only have one bye game. It's a little tricky to arrange the schedule, but Berkeley's useful scheduling page tells you how to do it: http...

Re: How to search the Stanford Archive
I have no control over the Stanford Archive myself, but it looks like we got some fresh blood in the club to (finally) start updating it again. Hopefully we can start filling the gaps in it by putting all the decent tournaments of the past five years on it. Matt brought up one good point: should we ...

Re: ACF nationals discussion
I wrote the Aharonov-Bohm effect question. It's covered in undergrad quantum mechanics courses (maybe not at every university in America, but at least it appears in Griffiths, which I imagine is the most popular textbook for undergrad quantum nowadays). As others have said, it's come up a lot as eit...

Re: ACF Nationals: Undergraduate & Division II titles
But, I have a slight fear that this may cause a very small number of teams to think about shifting their membership to win these other titles. I want to strongly encourage teams, on their honor, to play their best 4 players on their top team...or at least be able to make a good faith argument that ...

Re: Announcement: ACF Nationals 2008 04/26/08 (Brandeis)
Since I haven't heard anything about this in over a month, am I correct in assuming that these side events aren't happening? It would be good to know before we book our flights.DeisEvan wrote:I have heard from several sources that people are planning side events to ACF Nationals.

Re: New Computer Ranking System
Due to great demand, I added Jonathan to the rankings. You can see the rankings are still fairly volatile due to the small statistics: the force of Jonathan's massive gravitational field was strong enough to propel Seth Teitler ahead of Mike Sorice into second place (you can see that Seth outscored ...

New Computer Ranking System
Hi, I've been working for a little over a month on a computer ranking system that ranks individual players using a Markov chain technique. I'll give a brief description of the technique, and the present results. If you're bored by details, and just want to see the results, scroll down to the bottom ...

For any set of weak-classifiers, this process is guaranteed to converge to a solution that classifies at least as well as the best classifier. Developed by Yoav Freund and Robert Schapire, this meta-algorithm involves repeatedly reclassifying the training data with the best of the set of original c...

First of all, I'd like to publicly apologize to MIT for getting them the packets so late. Never having edited a tournament before, I severely underestimated the time it takes to compile packets. I'm really sorry for the frustration it must have caused you. The frantic compiling of the packets also c...

Thirteen teams showed up to Cardinal Classic Saturday. Based on the number of teams and packets, we agreed to play a full round robin, with one packet left over for a one-game final if necessary to break a tie. At the end of the round robin, Maryland (Jonathan Magin, Charles Meigs, Chris Ray, Mike B...

Yeah, I find Google Docs formatting in general really annoying. I don't think it's quite so simple to just say 3 lines in Google = 6 lines in Word, because Google Docs readjusts the lines when you resize your window, so it really depends entirely on how big your window is. I try copying the question...

Just a reminder that the $40 discount deadline for submitting your packet is coming up in less than a week. This is an early announcement that Cardinal Classic XVII will be held at Stanford University on Saturday, February 2, 2008 . A full announcement will come sometime in the fall, but right now I just wanted to announce the date. This will be an academic packet-submission tournament, with difficulty so...
