At the end of each week I would look over the questions my players had missed at practices, matches, tournaments, etc. Since most couldn't go more than a few hours without their iPods nearby, I made mp3's of myself reading the missed questions and distributed them to the players. This way, they coul...

So where is "SHE" attending high school? I recall she had a few options before her... Sorry Chuck, just can't help with the Voldemort references! Assuming she continues her scholastic bowl career, you'll know her name soon enough. She's attending Streator High School. I would definitely give the te...

 I can't wait. Of course, that occurs one day after the IESA Scholastic Bowl Coaches Workshop. Will you be in attendance? What are your plans for this year with regards to scholastic bowl, or are you going the Dick Vermeil route (that is, follow a championship by taking time off)? Deny it if y...

you-know-who. Dude, I'm not Voldemort, and I don't think the Streator St. Anthony girl is either. You can just say "you" when talking to me about me, it's a lot less silly. EDIT-Evan Adams claims to have conclusive proof that I am Voldemort. However, I just sent Nagini after him, so we wont be hear...

I think a middle school national tournament would be an awesome undertaking. Then again, with :chip:, not so much.

Does Illinois even have a "Columbia High School"? In 13 years of being to every big tournament in the state (including state), I'm not sure I've ever even heard of them ...... Columbia is about 30 minutes south of St. Louis. I'm not sure they play in any tournaments at all, maybe their conference? ...

I’m sort of in the process of writing fifteen or so pyramidal rounds at the junior high level in the IESA format. I’d be happy to send out copies to any coaches/teams that are interested. It will probably take me a few more months to finish. I’m trying to make good pyramidal style questions th...

Re: Junior High Questions

Something I noticed recently while browsing the Stanford Packet Archive and attempts to google is that there's a significant lack of Junior High questions as opposed to pretty much every other level of quizbowl out there (HS, Junior College, College of various levels, etc.). Is there any kind of re...

I think if there is going to be a sportmanship rule, it needs to focus on how the players and coaches are acting. If a player does something that might be unconscious, and might be interpreted as unsportsmanlike, you call the coach over, warn them and move on. If it is flagrant, you impose a penalt...

During the 2005 Class A state tournament, the previously undefeated & eventual state champs Columbia ICS were upset by previously winless Avon in the third round. True, but ICS entered that match 2-0, and Avon was 0-2. ICS had already clinched a berth in the championship game and MAY (but I don't k...

Mr. Colbert (aka N.H.), If I truly spoke for the IESA, I'd be done with the goofy blurt rule as constituted  . Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Colbert is correct. I haven't been at any IESA State Finals since 2002, but I haven't coached my current team to the finals yet, leaving me stuck at 2 finals...

On a much nicer note, how do the IESA coaches feel about the new competition start date for the upcoming season? Are there any less publicized tournaments that occur before this date (or even before winter break)?

I must address some of the misinformation being provided by Mr. Price, and the organization which he has seemingly appointed himself the official spokesperson of, the IESA advisory committee. Firstly, and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t believe he or any member of the committee att...
